Rodney Shaffer Obituary

Rodney Sullivan Shaffer

COTTAGEVILLE, S.C. - Rodney Sullivan Shaffer, 69, of Cottageville, passed away peacefully at home following a lengthy illness on Monday (Jan. 13, 2025).

Born in Salamanca, N.Y., on July 18, 1955, Rodney was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife of 50 years, Annamay Miller Shaffer. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and commitment.

Rodney was a beloved father to his six children, Crystal (Scott) Klessner, Frances (Kelvin) Nelson-Jamison, Jada Shaffer, Richard Shaffer, Travis Shaffer and Jeffery (Kayla) Shaffer. He was Grandpa and Papa to grandchildren, Alyssa, Scott, Tyler, Rayshawn, Maioni, Asiana, Rodney, Zachary and Hadley. He was also a great-grandfather to Aubrey, Caysyn, Avery, Davis, Tatum and Namir.

Rodney proudly served in the U.S. Army, dedicating several years of his life to his country. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a truck driver, a job he performed with dedication and resilience until his retirement. Known for his strong work ethic, Rodney's life on the road brought him both challenges and unique experiences, which he always enjoyed sharing with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Annamay; his children and grandchildren; and his siblings, Richard (Janet) Shaffer, Raymond (Debra) Shaffer and Cindy Carter.

Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Richard Shaffer; mother, Betsy Heberling; brother, Randy Shaffer; and brother-in-law David Carter.

A funeral is not planned. A Celebration of Life for Rodney will be held at a later date. Those who wish to honor Rodney's memory are encouraged to share their stories and memories during this gathering, celebrating a life well-lived and dearly missed.

So many memories. My heart is broken but we will cherish the short and the memories made. You scared me a bit as a kid, but you would warm us up by taking us for rides on the motorcycle when we visited in Alabama.
Funny and such a hard worker. Stubborn at times, but that's what we Shaffers are. Always in our hearts and many prayers for my precious Aunt and cousins. This is difficult, remember the good memories. Always in my heart, never forgotten.
