Thomas Sullivan Lennon

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA --- Thomas Sullivan Lennon, 89, of Charlottesville, VA, died on May 16, 2022, at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, VA.

Born on March 18, 1933, in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of Vincent de Paul Lennon and Margaret Elizabeth Lennon of Allegany, NY.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Catharine, their three sons (Alexander and his wife, Sarah, of Fairfax, VA; Nicholas and his wife, Monica, of Burke, VA; and Christopher and his wife, Maren, of Charlottesville, VA), and their six grandchildren (Tyler, Natasha, Jonah, Quinn, Emmett, and Milo), as well as a sister, Mary, of Vero Beach, FL.

Tom received a B.A. (Latin) from Niagara University, NY; an M.A. (History) from St. Bonaventure University, NY; and a J.D. from Georgetown University, Washington, DC. He devoted his life to the field of education. For 18 years, he served as Vice President of Manhattan College, New York. He also taught in various locations (Allegany Central School, Allegany, NY.; St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, NY.; and The American University of Beirut, Lebanon). Tom also worked in the management consulting and trade association fields. In addition, he participated in community activities as a member of the Board of Education, Edgemont, NY; Coordinator of the Parish Council of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Scarsdale, NY; and President of the Board of Trustees of the Berkeley Institute, Brooklyn, NY.

Above all, Tom loved spending time with his very close family. With his wife, Catharine, he enjoyed extensive international travel, opera, music, ballet, art, theater, literature, and sports.

Special thanks are extended to Dr. Evan Heald of the University of Virginia for his constant care and support throughout several years of ill health.

A funeral service was held at St. Thomas Aquinas University Parish Church, Charlottesville, on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception in the Church Hall, and subsequent interment at Monticello Memory Gardens, Charlottesville, at 12:00 noon. The officiant was the Reverend David Mott, O.P.

A visitation took place at Hill and Wood Funeral Service, Charlottesville, on Friday, June 3, from 5:00 – 7.00 PM.
