Benjamin Ryan Obituary

Ryan, Benjamin Hugh

Benjamin Hugh Ryan of Omaha, NE was born in Winchester, Virginia on February 9, 2007 along with his twin brother, Noah. A month and half early, Benjamin began his brief life in the NICU, setting the tone for the rest of his life. "Little but fierce", as his big brother, Mason, called him, Benjamin reveled in adventure in the countryside around Culpeper, Virginia where he was raised. He was always happiest floating down a river, hiking a mountain trail or exploring the woods with his brothers.

Shortly before his tenth birthday, Benjamin and his family moved to Omaha. In his new home, Benjamin's charming personality, ever-present, mischievous smile and joyful attitude towards life won him many loyal friends among his peers and adults alike in very short order.

In his fifth grade year, Benjamin began a struggle with brain cancer that would ultimately take his life. Despite his dire prognosis, he was always fearless and cheerful in the face of tremendous odds against him. Without a single complaint, he battled the ravages of cancer and the after effects of brain surgery for over five years. Always concerned for others, he even volunteered to be the first patient in a groundbreaking trial that will benefit pediatric cancer patients well into the future.

With a deep and abiding faith in God, amazing support from friends and family all over the world and a stoic approach to his struggle, Benjamin endured unimaginable challenges for a boy his age with incredible grace. His "never quit" attitude inspired all who met him and his undaunted sense of humor and infectious smile only won him more admirers and friends during his illness. A beloved son, brother, and friend, Benjamin will be forever missed and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Benjamin is survived by his parents, Jayme and Hugh Ryan; his brothers, Mason and Noah; uncle, Jake McKee (Kris); aunt, Janae Galvis (Daniel); his grandparents; and many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Family will Receive friends Monday, February 13th, from 4:30-7pm at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (14330 Eagle Run Drive), with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm. MASS of CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 14th, at 10:30am, with a Luncheon to follow. Private Interment in Forest Lawn. In lieu of flowers, a foundation has been established in Benjamin's name with the primary purpose of helping families fighting pediatric cancer.

Give rest, O Lord, to the soul of thy servant, Benjamin, where there is no pain, no sorrow, but life everlasting.

I so wish I had met Benjamin, but I did get to know him a little through his dad. Hugh and I spoke of our connection to Augusta, Georgia, and Culpeper, Virginia. I cherish my friendship with Hugh, my D. A. Davidson financial advisor. My heart is torn apart to hear of Benjamin's passing. I pray for Hugh, Jayme, Mason, Noah, and the family and friends who loved Benjamin. Eternal Memory.

Hugh and Jayme.
My dear friends...
I know that in this moment all you want is privacy and respect for your loss, but I just really want to share this with you.
When my father died I was immensely sad but a good friend shared this and made feel a little better.
I'll just translate it for you, it goes like this:
"FOR THOSE I LOVED AND THOSE WHO LOVED ME"
When my time to fly comes..., please let me go.
I have many things to do and see, do not bind me with your tears and let us thank God for the beautiful years we spent together.
You will think of the joy you showed me and the love I gave you.
But now, I have to fly alone.
If you have to grief, grief for a moment and let your faith in God comfort your pain.
We will only be apart for a little while, keep the memories in your hearts.
Life goes on, I won't be far.
If you need me, just think of me and I will be in each of you and you will feel the warmth of my love in your hearts.
And when it is your turn to fly towards these skies I will receive you with a big smile and I will tell you with open arms:
"WELCOME"!!!

With much love...
Benjamin Hugh Ryan.

We can´t even begin to imagine the grieve and exhaustion you must be feeling but please know how inspired we have been by your journey in faith and love.
