I am serving in military in Turkey right now and therefore heard the news late. I am very sorry to hear that Chuck is no longer with us. He always had a great story to tell and a great joke to follow it. He always made believe that anything is possible, with hard work and a little luck (as he wrote in his book). Well, I feel that I was very "lucky" to meet a person like him. I will miss him a lot.

Boy Scouts, Mid-America Council

Durham was a huge supporter of the community, and of Scouting. He served on the Mid-America Council board since 1960. He served as a Director of the Boy Scouts Board North Central Region (1978-92) and Mid-America Council Chairman (1978-79).
In 1974, Durham was awarded the Council’s Citizen of the Year. A Silver Beaver Award recipient (1980) and Silver Antelope Award recipient (1991), Durham was also a Distinguished Eagle Scout (1993). In 1999 he was awarded the James E. West National Endowment Award.
Durham has continuously given to the Council’s Friends of Scouting campaign, the Endowment Fund and he donated the lead gift and chaired the fundraising campaign for the Durham Scout Center. He also sponsored numerous Council Awards Receptions and Distinguished Executives Banquets. Durham was responsible for many projects at Camp Cedars. He donated audio/visual equipment to our Durham Scout Center Storz Conference Room, bringing the Council up-to-date with technology.
Over his lifetime, Durham donated passion, time and resources to the Boy Scouts, Mid-America Council. He made it possible for thousands of youth to grow with the Scouting program. He has always been a friend to Scouting and left a lasting contribution in his will. He supported the Scouting program so much over his lifetime, and continues his support for the future.
The Boy Scouts, Mid-America Council’s deepest sympathies are with the Durham family. Chuck Durham will be greatly missed, but his dedication to Scouting will live on for years to come.

To The Durham Family:
I know that all of you will miss the quiet guiding force that Chuck provided in your lives. May he continue to do so from afar, and know that his spirit of peace is with you always. His nod to me through the years meant more than a thousand words that could have been spoken.

Lynne:
I am so sorry for your loss. I know how very much your father meant to you. Although I did not know him personally, it was impossible to not know "of" him because of all the wonderful things he did for Omaha. My heart goes out to you at this difficult time, but I will always remember the wonderfully sweet stories you told me about him whenever we would visit. Take care!

To all the families of Charles & Margre Durham, my deepest sympathy. Chuck Durham was a tower of strength and instilled a sense of pride in Omaha, in Nebraska, and the far-flung corners of the world. Here in the West, I smile as I see "HDR" on project signs and know that his company is improving our way of life. Thank you Chuck and Margre.

To the Durham family: I am truly saddened by the loss of your Father - he was a great man. My memories of your family run long and deep, and both your parents were good and dear friends of mine - Karl and Marjorie Lambooy. Margre was a great strength for me when I lost my Mother - she would call me or I would call and we would talk at great length - she was always there for me and I will never forget. For your Father, he lent support and council to me on several occasions inviting me to their home and giving me an autographed copy of their book. With his great smile - BE LUCKY TOO CHUCK! I pray that God will sustain you all at this time of loss, and know how wonderful your legacy. With sincere sympathy - Chuck Lambooy.

It is always sad to lose a loved one, but Nebraska has lost one who has loved us back.
Mr. Durham will always be remembered, for all that he has given, not only from his wallet, but from his heart.
