James Zachar Obituary

ZACHAR-James Joseph "Jay", age 40, of Greensboro, NC went to his eternal rest suddenly on June 5, 2006. Born August 16, 1965 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the oldest son of Judith Mikulsky Zachar and the late James Emil Zachar. A highly gifted student, Jay was a 1983 honors graduate of J.F. Kennedy High School, Cedar Rapids, IA and captain of the swim team. His family then moved to Lake Forest, IL. He was awarded a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA in 1989. At Stanford, Jay was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and was employed at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. From 1989 until 2006, he worked as an electrical engineer and software specialist in CA, OH, WA, NH and NC, making good friends wherever he lived. He was predeceased by his father, James Emil Zachar, who died in September 2005, and by his grandparents, Evelyn and John Mikulsky, of Kenosha, WI and Emma and Emil Zachar, of Omaha, NE. Jay will sadly be missed by all his family who love him very much and pray that he is now at peace with the Lord. Surviving in addition to his mother, of Pawleys Island, SC; are sisters, Mary Evelyn and husband, Timothy McGuire of Greenville, SC with whom he spent much time, Elizabeth Emily and husband, Douglas Pessefall of Wauwatosa, WI; brothers, John Patrick and wife, Elizabeth (Lane), of Chicago, and Thomas Matthew and wife, Melinda (Myers) of Winnetka, IL; nephews, Nathan Zachar, Patrick McGuire, Edward Pessefall, Brendan McGuire, Charles Zachar and John Zachar; nieces, Emily Pessefall, Amanda Zachar and Sarah Pessefall; uncle, John James Mikulsky and wife, Margaret, of San Carlos, CA; and cousins, Sara and Rachel Mikulsky.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Patrick Stenson on Friday, June 23, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church, 1633 Waverly Road, Pawleys Island, SC. The family will receive friends following the services. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Peter Drenzek on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish, 7474 Harwood Ave., Wauwatosa, WI. Burial will follow at St. George Cemetery in Kenosha, WI directed by Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the James Joseph Zachar Memorial Fund, Miracle Hills Rescue Mission, PO Box 2546, Greenville, SC, 29602. Sign guestbook at www.goldfinch.funeralhome.com
