I am Joe's little sister Mary (Mary Lou). I just wanted to thank everyone for sharing all their stories, and memories of my dear big brother Joe. I enjoyed reading through them all. They brought back sweet memories of Joe, and also gave me comfort, and warmed my heart with all of your sweet and kind words. I will miss many, many things about my brother. He was always there for me when I was growing up, he always looked after me, gave me advice, and always, always, made me laugh. And I don't know why, but I've come to realize that I will miss Joe's "unrelenting" oneriness most of all. Like the time he nicely wrapped a rotten potato from him to me, and put it under our Christmas tree on 16th street, and eagerly encouraged me to open it. (I remember being a little disollusioned at the time, but have since laughed about it many times. He just loved to tease me, and I remember in particular, an e-mail he had sent me after a visit he had made to Omaha. He had been teasing me while he was here about the size of my adorable youngest grandson Jameson's head. He said "How's the baby with the big head?, and on and on he went throughout the e-mail, and must have mentioned the word big head in reference to Jameson at least 10 times!!! Nelly, he was so very lucky to have you---you were an absolute angel to him, I will love you forever for that!!! Erin he was so very proud of you from the day you were born, and Jake, and all his grandchildren brought him such joy! We will all miss you, Joe! I'm sure you and Dad are at the big horse track in the sky!
Your little sister, Mary

I'm glad I found this guestbook "by accident"....
Joe has been my friend since we met in third grade. I will always have great memories of playing basketball with him in his back yard, pretending to be a couple of the star players who were upperclassmen at Prep! We also had a great time playing organized basketball at St. Therese. We were students together at Prep and "drinking buddies" on the the streets of Omaha then and in college (sorry Mrs.Bruno!). He was my best man at my wedding. Joe was loyal, tough, resourceful and, most of all, my best friend. He always had a way of "pulling it off" at "the last minute". It was agonizing to see him suffer in his last days, but he was so tenacious in providing for his family that he lived much longer than any lesser man would have. I miss him, but will always cherish the memories of the many days and adventures we lived together. Hopefully, Joe, I'll see you on the other side and we can play ball again and win every game.
Your buddy, Mike

Our hearts and prayers go out to Nellie and family. May you all be comforted by his memories, I know he loved his family so very much. I worked with Joe on a project in Ohio and spent time with him (and family) when we moved to AZ a few years back. Although we didn't get to see him much due to both of us traveling for work, the times we did spend with him were memories we will always cherish. I won't ever forget his joy and happiness at your Halloween parties nor will I forget his kind, selfless attitude. He will be missed greatly and remembered always. Todd, Elizabeth and Reese Cronin

To Aunt Jenny, Cousins Ronnie, Angie & Mary Lou,
My heart felt sympathy to you all for the loss of one so near and dear to each of you. He will live forever in the hearts and memories of others. I will always remember him as my "older cousin" playing pool or a friendly hand at cards with the "men". I imagine he and Nanu, Uncle Sam, Uncle Carl, Uncle Aldo & Uncle Anthony are doing that now and discussing the upcoming races. :)
To Cousin Joey's wife Nellie, their children and grandchildren,
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers daily during this difficult time. Feel reassured in knowing he is at peace and in comfort, watching over all of you from his heavenly place, smiling and taking pleasure in seeing his family live and enjoy life to its fullest.
Sincerely,

Nellie & Erin, and Bruno family,
I had never known Joe had "picked 6" at the races. I can see now that I went to the races with the wrong Bruno. I once went to the dog races in Wisconsin with Ron and in the first race we won on a "pick 4" and won 300 dollars. With the rest of the races we broke even and the last race was coming up. Ron said to me: "What do you thing we should do? We can leave now with 150 dollars each in our pocket even after dinner. That is better than 99.9% of the rest of the people did here tonight. Or we could bet it all on the last race and if we win, we leave here with a significant chunk of change in our pockets? What do we do? I resonded, "We don't have a choice! Do we?"
If I was with Joe I would have left with a significant folding money in my pocket.
It has been a rough couple of years for you guys and I've kept you guys in my prayers and you will continue to be thinking of you. I am glad you will have a new child born in the Bruno family to carry on.
Take good care,
Bob

I worked with Joe in Wilmington, DE on a PeopleSoft project. He was a great person, very smart, and fun. Immediately after the project ended, Joe contacted me to ask for prayers. He had been diagnosed with cancer and the road ahead would be tough. To the Bruno family: You have been on my prayer list since that day and will continue to be. May God Bless You!

Nellie asks that in lieu of sending flowers, people can make a donation to Hospice of the Valley. They helped take care of him up until the very end and were a phenomenal support to our family.

My favorite memory of Uncle Joe was after Grandpa Sam's funeral we went to the casino and Joe taught me how to shoot craps. No matter how much I lost that night I will treasure the memory for the rest of my life. Rest in Peace Uncle Joe.

Nellie: My heart goes out to you and your daughters in the loss of my dear nephew Joe. We all love him so much. Take comfort in the fact that Joe is now at peace with the Lord. Joe was such a fun guy to be with,so good looking, great personality. When he was a toddler we called him "Baby Joe Joe" and when he grew older "Joey", then "Joe". Nellie you were such a good wife to Joe and the love between you was so obvious. Take comfort in the good memories. Love Aunt Dolly (Tina Bruno Thornburg)
