Semrad, Marilyn Jean (Cain)
Age 88

Fremont, NE. Passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Nye Legacy in Fremont. She was born November 19, 1923 in Fremont, NE; the only child of Ulysses Stanley (U.S.) Cain, Jr. and Harriett Eddy Cain. Marilyn lived in Fremont her entire life with the exception of 2 years in St. Louis, MO. She attended Fremont Schools, graduating from Fremont Senior High School in 1941. She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a major in music, a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and the Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity for Women. On December 20, 1944, she married Miles A. Semrad in Fremont. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2003. She was a member of The Fremont Community Players; Epsilon Sigma Alpha Philanthropic Sorority, PEO AJ Chapter Fremont and St. James Episcopal Church. She was musical director and on the Council of Bethel 15, Jobs Daughters, taught private piano lessons for 62 years, retiring in mid 2011; and was choir director and organist for both the adult and children's choir at St. James Episcopal Church, retiring after 29 years. In 1970 she became accompanist for chorus and band at Fremont Jr. High School for 13 years, retiring in 1984, as well as accompanying many choir and band individuals and groups at various State music contests. The next 10 years she was a volunteer accompanist for the Fremont Grade Schools, for which she received The Friends of Education Award in 2000 from the Fremont School System and The Mentor Award from Fremont Senior High School. She is survived by her two children, Michael L. Semrad, Sr. and wife, Judy of Fremont and Cindy(Semrad)Wattier and husband, Lynn of LaVista; nine grandchildren, Heather Wattier Barry and Eric Wattier, both of Omaha, Becki Wattier of Farmington, MN; Cain-Michael Semrad of New York, N.Y., Nicholas Turner Semrad of Brooklyn, N.Y., Geoffrey L. Semrad and wife, Jamey of Fremont, Andrew J. "Drew" Semrad and Michael L. Semrad, Jr. and wife, Kerry of Lincoln, NE, Christopher G. Thor and wife, Jennifer of Fremont; and eleven great grandchildren, Mackenzie L. Barry and Spencer P. Barry both of Omaha, Emily L. Sheldon of Farmington, MN, Jaylen K. Semrad, Gillian E. Semrad and Jasper L. Semrad all of Fremont, Myles J. Semrad-Roberts, Jackson Singer Semrad and Annie A. Semrad all of Lincoln and Craig C. Thor and Madison L. Thor of Fremont.
FUNERAL SERVICE 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 8th at St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont. PRAYER SERVICE 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 7th at the church. VISITATION Tuesday 10 AM to 4 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation with family receiving friends on Tuesday from 5 PM to 7:30 PM at St. James Episcopal Church. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be given to St. James Episcopal Church, American Cancer Society Relay for Life (Fremont, NE Chapter) or the Dodge County Humane Society.
