Norbert Schuerman Obituary
December 26, 1934 - November 27, 2024
A celebration of life for the former superintendent of the Omaha Public Schools and career educator is set for Saturday, June 28, 1 p.m. at the OPS Teacher Administrative Center, 3215 Cuming Street in Omaha. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Sherm and Charlette Schuerman's honor to the Omaha Public Schools Foundation.

I met him in 1982 at Jefferson Elementary when I was in Kindergarten. His name was on the chalkboard at the top above Mrs. Fishbaugh's name and I wanted to meet him. One day, he was walking through the hallway and walked right past our line as we were leaving the gym/cafeteria or the library. I looked up at him and thought he was a giant; he had such a kind authority about him. I was honored to actually meet him through the Making Invisible History Visible program in the summer of 2023. Now towering over him at 6'3", he was still a giant to me. He greeted me kindly, held my hand and looked me in the eyes as we talked. I told him about Jefferson Elementary and what he meant to me. It was a dream come true to finally meet him! He will always be remembered as "My Superintendent" because with him as the superintendent, I always felt safe. The pictures taken with him at our meeting will always be treasured. God bless his family.
