Ellen Stoll Obituary

Ellen Louise Speck Stoll was released from her human bonds and passed into the arms of her Lord on December 16th, 2020. She was proceeded in death by her parents Stephen Johnson Speck and Dorothy Jane Harvey Speck. She is survived by her husband, Kevin John Stoll, and three children; Carrie Beth Stoll Finney (Jeffrey Finney), Michael Travis Stoll (Kristi Marie Stoll) and Amy Marie Stoll McClure (Justin McClure). She is also survived by two sisters; Marcia Jane Speck McDonald (Steven McDonald) and Anne Christine Speck Lee (Gregory Lee), and six grandchildren; Ansley Marie McClure, Kayden Briggs Stoll, John Benjamin Finney, Baleigh Jane McClure, Kellen Bennett Stoll, and Joshua Albert Finney.

Ellen greatest love in life was her children and grandchildren, as well as the hundreds of children she taught in private preschools and the Clarke County PreK program. Nothing brought her greater joy than to watch "her kids" grow and learn. She had great faith in God and shared this with many, either through Vacation Bible School, Youth Group, Bible Study, or simply how she lived her life. Ellen and Kevin celebrated 47 years of marriage this year.

A small private ceremony for family and close friends will held on December 19th, 2020 at Lord and Stephens East. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ellen's name to Southside Church Backpacks for Kids fund, Toys for Tots, St. Jude's, or Wounded Warrior Project.

Kevin, Marcia, Anne, kids, and grandkids, I am so sorry for your loss. Ellen and I grew up down the street from each other and at the same church until the Specks moved to Athens. Many of my childhood memories include Ellen: walking home from school, playing outside until after dark, putting on skits that Anne wrote, listening to the Mary Poppins soundtrack when it first came out, selling Girl Scout cookies, choir, babysitting kids in the neighborhood. Ellen truly loved babies and young children and I can imagine her as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and teacher. We tried to navigate the mysteries of becoming teenagers together, smoked our first cigarette together, then immediately confessed to our parents. I remember Ellen's easygoing nature and how she laughed often, many times to the point of tears. We re-connected for a few years in Athens and I remember her as a young wife and mother, full of love for her family. She and her family were definitely blessings in my life. Kevin, Marcia, Anne, and family, I am so sorry for your loss. My Mother sent me the obituary. I am greatly saddened and have so many fond memories of Ellen and your family as our great next door neighbors in Cedar Creek. Ellen was our first babysitter and your Dad took me fishing for the first time in my life. We used to take trips to the University dairy where he worked. These are vivid memories for me growing up next door to your family and getting to know all of you. I remember first meeting Kevin and playing football on our front lawn with you and Ellen. I hope that you and your family can find comfort this holiday season.
