I am so sorry to learn of Joyce's passing and I wish I had found out sooner. She was a Porterfield family cousin and helped me so much with our family history many years ago. She had such a giving spirit and was very kind to me. Her email correspondence is in my Porterfield files because they provided so much valuable information. When future generations read these emails, they will know what a generous and caring person she was. Heaven gained an angel for sure with Joyce...

I am a distant cousin in Arkansas. I just discovered that Joyce had passed away, and although she is with the Lord and whole again, I will miss hearing from her.
We met doing genealogy over 18 years ago. She was so helpful and lovely, we got to be friends and kept in touch often.
I still have some of the last e-mails I got from her. She said it was so hard to type because her arthritis in her hands had gotten very bad. She was not doing much genealogy anymore.
We shared more than that, as we were in agreement on politics and funny jokes.
I will never forget this lovely lady.
RIP, Cousin Joyce.

I only met Joyce three or four times, including the times she came to the Compton family reunion at Watkins Mill Bridge State Park. Joyce often sent out information about various family members and ancestors as she worked to learn more about the history of her family. She was a wonderful Southern lady but more importantly, Joyce was a Sister in Christ. It will be a joy to see her again one day.
With love, "Charlotte's boy"

Joyce will be missed by all of our family. She always kept us up to date with everything from family news, ancestry, important facts, politics and funny jokes. We are especially proud of her wonderful record of our Patten side of The Family. She was so devoted to making sure that it was accurate and could always be proven. She loved and was loved by so many. Rest in peace..God Speed

I never had the pleasure of meeting Joyce in person, but I admired her dedication to her work in genealogy and the sharing of her data with others. I was one of those fortunate individuals. Thankfully, she would let me know when I had posted mistakes to my own work. I know you will miss her, but she will be remembered for generations to come by her work and generosity of shared work. My sincerest condolences.

Carolyn, I'm very sorry to hear of your sister. I never had a sibling but always wanted one. I know it hurts to loose a sister but knowing she knew Jesus is a comfort in knowing that you will see her again one day. I'll be praying for you and your family. I know I haven't seen you in a long time but I think of you all often. Take care, and hope to see you soon.
