Kathryn Glenn Obituary

Kathryn Kelley Glenn (Kay) of Athens passed away peacefully at her home on December 27, 2014.
Kay Glenn was the oldest child of Marion and Margaret Kelley born March 2, 1949 in Decatur, Georgia. She graduated from Decatur High School and went on to attend the University of Georgia earning her undergraduate degree in education as well as a Master's degree. She taught school for many years in Athens Clarke County.
Kay was active with several cultural and philanthropic groups. She was an extraordinary volunteer with Athens Creative Theatre for many years serving as production coordinator for countless productions and assisting with everything from casting to costumes. Kay also served on the Board of Directors for Hope Haven of Northeast Georgia and was a valued member of the Junior League of Athens and the Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary. She served as president of the Auxiliary in 1986-1987 and remained an active supporter of all of these organizations until her death.
Kay was an avid gardener, loved nature, the theatre, books and movies. She enjoyed traveling and spending time on Georgia's coast, in particular on Saint Simon's Island.
Kay was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Kelley, who passed away in 1979 and her mother, Peg, who passed away earlier this year. She is survived by her father, Marion of Watkinsville; husband of more than 40 years, Mike; son Jack and daughter-in -law Brett of Athens; son Will, daughter-in-law Natalie, grandson Grady, and granddaughter Abigail of Athens; daughter Kelley of Charleston, SC; brother Jimmy of Oklahoma City, OK; brother John of Watkinsville, GA; and too many friends to count.
Kay had an effervescent personality and a loving spirit that drew others to her easily. She radiated positivity and strength that served her well during her battle with cancer over the past year and a half. She was blessed with many friendships that spanned decades, states, and even continents. Kay had an ever-present smile and always encouraged others, especially her children, to have fun! She was an amazing mother and was so pleased to watch her family grow with the addition of two grandchildren who quickly became the light of her life.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 10 at the Morton Theatre in downtown Athens. Friends and family are invited to celebrate and encouraged to wear bright colors in honor of Kay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Foundation of Northeast Georgia.

Mike, Will and family-
Kay was such a genuinely sweeet lady who never appeared to meet a stranger, and was friendly and kind to everyone. I enjoyed all the times we spent together watching Georgia tennis at various venues around the country. We are all better persons for having known her. Alan and I are thinking of you and praying for all of you during this time. With love from the Kimbros
