Robert Basham Obituary

Robert M. Basham, cherished husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at the age of 78.

A lifelong resident of Athens, he was the son of the late Frank Basham and Roberta Nelms Basham. Mr. Basham was a 1960 graduate of Athens High School. Following his graduation, he joined the United States Army where he served as a Tank Commander and then served in the Army Reserves for more than 15 years. He was owner and operator of Basham Welding and Machine Company and then went to work for Food Machinery Sales. In 1986, Mr. Basham founded Athens Packaging which was then purchased by Keebler, prior to his retirement in 2001. Following his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his family at their lake house on Lake Yonah, but most importantly, his world revolved around his granddaughter who he adored. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his cousin, Leland Basham.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Basham; one son, Mike Basham and his wife, Suzanne; one granddaughter, Casey Basham; sister-in-law, Judy Bailie and her husband, Brad; brother-in-law, Bill Geissler; cousin, James Basham and his wife, Peggy and numerous nieces and nephews.

I learned of Bobby's passing and want to offer my deepest condolences. Bobby was a friend and mentor during our time with Keebler and beyond.

Bob was one of those special people that as soon as you met him you felt like a friend. It was always a good part of life to share time with him. And even more special to spend time with him and Linda together. Such a close couple you'd think they'd been together since birth.
My prayers to all!
