Richard Bohrer Obituary
June 17, 1926 - Dec. 21, 2022
Richard "Dick" William Bohrer, age 96, of West Linn, Ore., passed away peacefully Dec. 21, 2022. He was born in New York City June 17, 1926. Dick graduated with a BA in music theory from Westmont College, a MS in Education Administration from University of Southern California and an MA in English from California State University. He taught fifth grade in Haile Selassie Elementary School in Gondar Ethiopia from 1947-1950 and held various teaching positions in California from 1950-1963.
He married Elizabeth "Betty" Spencer July 8, 1955. In 1963 he moved his family to Portland, Ore., where he started the Journalism department at Multnomah School of the Bible. During his time in Portland, he led the choir for Central Bible Church, sold real estate through Dick Bohrer Realty, was a board member at Portland Christian School and an active and involved father. He and his wife Betty, moved to Chicago in 1979 where he was editor of Moody Monthly Magazine. In 1983 Dick and Betty moved to Lynchburg, Va., where he taught journalism and English composition at Liberty University until his retirement in 1994. While at Liberty, he was nominated for Virginia Teacher of the Year in 1987. Dick and Betty moved back to Portland to their beloved house on the Tualatin River where he spent many years writing books (19 published*) and teaching at writers' conferences. He was a devoted follower of our Lord Jesus Christ and used his gift of writing to encourage other believers in their Christian walk.
Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty, May 17, 2022.
He is survived by his two children, Joel (Susan) Bohrer and Janice (Mark) Pruitt; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Jan. 16, 2023, at Mount View Baptist Temple, 22222 S.W. Grahams Ferry Road, Tualatin, OR.

I remember when he was about 85 years old, we were cleaning a house out as I painted inside. He loaded my trailer, taller than he was, all by himself. He worked for five hours doing it. I was just amazed. He was a great guy!

Dick and Betty had a profound impact on our lives. We credit Dick for matching us together in fact. It was during his time as Professor and Yearbook Advisor at Liberty University. He and Betty attended our wedding in 1989. We considered Dick and Betty great friends and mentors to us both. We are profoundly saddened by both of their passing's. We grieve with you but know that they are praising our Father in Heaven now at this very moment. Blessings to your family and comfort to you during this time of bereavement.
