I send my deepest condolences to the Molina and Esquivel families and to her many friends.
I share my brief memories of Alex, hoping to offer comfort to those missing her and to help her light continue to shine.
Walking into her classroom for Meet the Teacher two and a half years ago, our first day at Keeth, my son Tom's 2nd grade year, I knew instantly she was one of my people: her room was filled with books. When I began volunteering for her, we bonded as both teachers of reading and lovers of books. She joked with me about her book addiction and how she was running out room for the bookcases her husband lovingly made for her and her students.
In the short time I knew her, Alex touched my life and inspired me. So gifted and natural a teacher was she that she taught all around her, not just her students. Just having small weekly conversations with Alex as I volunteered, I learned so much about being a teacher, a mother and a friend. She was unfailingly kind and warm, expressive and supportive. She graciously treated me as a colleague in the classroom. When I tried to downplay my prior teaching experience, she would say, with a smile, Once a teacher, always a teacher.
The relationships she built in the classroom created an ideal environment for learning and growing. She saw and loved the whole student. The bonds she nurtured with kids continued beyond the time in the classroom, with former students always returning for a hello or a hug.
Small moments she shared about her family life made me want to be a better mom. Many people talk about family first; Alex lived it. When she called me about her diagnosis, her concern was first for her children, her husband, and family; then for her students, again demonstrating the depth and breadth of her caring. The simple fact that she took precious time to call me shows so clearly her kindness and selflessness. I continue to be touched and humbled by that fact.
My son was blessed to have her as a second grade teacher, and I was blessed to know her as a colleague and friend. I miss her light already, but my memories of her will continue to teach me the rest of my life.

Alex will be missed by so many! She was a loving mother, wife, friend, teacher, and daughter. She had a light that shown from inside out. When I worked with her I would go in her room in the morning or afternoon to visit. She always made me feel a little happier before I left. Bless you, Alex and all your family.

Alex, you will forever be missed my sweet friend. You inspired all of us to be better with your kindness, warmth and grace. I'm blessed to have shared so many years and memories with you, but will forever regret that we lost touch as adults.
May your courageous soul be free now as you rest with Him in peace. <3

My childhood best friend. I am beyond lucky to have had you in my life for 32 years. You have always been beautiful, kind and giving, even on the first day I met you in Ms. Oliver's 4th grade class at Casselberry Elementary back in 1984. Your laugh was so contagious, and your smile would always light up the room. Thank you for being in my life. You are beyond loved and missed.
