Edward Dornseif Obituary

DORNSEIF, EDWARD WARNER, 86, longtime resident of Orlando, died on December 28, 2002 from complications of strokes earlier in the year. He was born on November 17, 1916 in Chicago, IL, to Arlie Christian and Anna Peterson Dornseif. He married Alice Pulick of College Point, NY, on October 23, 1947 in Chicago. After residing in Alabama, Puerto Rico, Panama, and Maryland, they settled in Orlando in 1954. Mr. Dornseif is survived by his wife; sister, Arlene Woods of Wheeling, IL; brothers, Allan of Sarasota and Donald of Niles, IL; children, Stephen of Fort Collins, CO, David of Chicago, Ellen Sherman of Geneva, FL, Gail Dornseif of North Miami Beach, Gerald of Livermore, CA, Mary Dornseif of Fort Collins, and Denise Sineway of Tampa; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His parents and siblings Dorothy Anderson and Robert Dornseif preceded him in death. Mr. Dornseif was a veteran whose service included horse-drawn artillery in the Army, airborne radio operator for the Air Force in WWII, flying all over the world including the Burma-China hump numerous times, as well as postwar assignments in Iceland and Homestead. He retired in 1959 as a master sergeant for manpower and training. As a young man he mined gold in California and was an amateur boxer. From 1960 to 1985 he was a mail carrier, primarily in Orlo Vista. He earned a bachelor's degree in business science and management from Jones College in 1975. Mr. Dornseif's family and friends will remember him for being helpful, kind, hardworking, and hospitable, and for his humility, wry sense of humor, sense of duty, principles, civic responsibility, and community service. He enjoyed reading and volunteering. He contributed as an officer of the Pine Hills Homeowners' Board, 40+ gallon donor to the Orlando Blood Bank, fund-raiser/organizer for Muscular Dystrophy, and officer of the National Association of Retired Letter Carriers and NALC union. He was a deacon of the Orlando Central Seventh Day Adventist Church. To respect Mr. Dornseif's wishes, cremation and a private family observance were held and no other memorial service is planned. Contributions in his memory may be made to Muscular Dystrophy or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family c/o Ellen Sherman at 220 Saunders Trail, Geneva, FL, 32732.

Ed was our mailman for over 20 years. Best one we have ever had.

We used to talk about our kids who were in same grades at Evans. He came to visit me when my sister died in 1999. A good man.
