Edward Haddad Obituary

Edward Haddad of Orlando, FL died peacefully at home on Feb. 3 of Alzheimer's disease.

Born October 11, 1942 in Willimantic, CT to Edward L. Haddad and Virginia Bonney Haddad, Ed grew up in Coventry. After graduating from UCONN with a degree in engineering, he began a 33-year career at General Dynamics Electric Boat, working on nuclear submarines and the Apollo moon project. After moving to FL, Ed worked for Cirent, RSVP and FL Academy of Sciences. He was a patron of the arts and a student of UCF's LIFE program.

A musical prodigy, Ed mastered the piano at an early age. He delighted audiences throughout his life with all types of music. He was also gifted with a majestic voice and a talent for acting.

Ed refused to be sidelined by his diagnosis. He participated in clinical trials and joined support groups, comforting other sufferers and inspiring many.

Ed was a dedicated member of Christ the King Episcopal Church. His faith brought him lifelong comfort and hope. He was the requested singer for many of his fellow parishioners' life events.

Ed loved to laugh, dance and socialize. He was the life of every party he attended and the many he threw. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary, daughter Betsy of Oviedo, FL, son Rob of Middletown, NJ, brother Thomas of Whitefield, ME and his five cherished grandchildren, Megan, Garrison, Emily, Justin and Christian.

It's been almost a year now without Dad. Yet he is always with me, with all of us who love him.
It fills my heart with joy to see him living on in his grandchildren.
Mom is doing as well as she can, planning to move to an active senior community in Oviedo, taking care of her health and continuing to serve others. Thank you to any who have reached out to her and kept in touch.
On this February 3, I will be in a conference with the Alzheimer's Association, planning our trip to Tallahassee to advocate with Florida's legislators. I have also registered with Charter Research, in hopes of participating in a future study that could help develop effective treatment. Mom has registered too. I encourage all over 55 to consider opportunities for involvement in research studies. Your local senior organization can direct you, or you can reach out to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org,
Be the future of care that you want to see.
And keep on playing Dad's music, telling his stories and loving him.

Ed was a strong supporter of the Learning Institute For Elders at the University of Central Florida. As President of LIFE he initiated the first formal agreement with UCF that created a lasting partnership with the University. I also had the privilege of serving on several of the ships built by Electric Boat that Ed's Quality Control division insured were the world's finest and safest nuclear submarines in the world. These ships were of great importance in maintaining world peace during the 40 year Cold war with the USSR. Thank you Ed. May you rest in peace.
