I will surely miss Jerry. He taught me many things. He would always ask me if I didn't complete a task if I had slept last night. I learned to anticipate his question and would answer I haven't slept in days. He also taught me fairness. He would harass me on a constant basis about finishing my education at PMT presentations. My response was as soon as Test Engineering would support me in going to school. I was unable to finish my degree at UCF because of their lack of flexibility in their schedule. When I received my degree from Florida Southern after his retirement I sent him an invitation. Unbelievely he showed up to my graduation. He will be surely missed. I was so hurt by his passing it has taken me this long to post on his guest book. He was very tough but very fair. He had an open door policy that really was an open door he would allow anyone that worked for him even a peon like me access to his office in the tower. They don't make them like that anymore. Maria thank you for making his life pleasant and for sharing him with us. You are a beautiful and kind lady if you ever need anything you have only to ask. Love your sister in Christ Debora (Seals) Barnett

I am so sorry to learn of Jerry's passing. I worked with and for Jerry in the 80's and 90's. Jerry did his job extremely well, with honesty, frankness and feedback that made me a better engineer and manager. Although Jerry was focused and hard driving, the work environment he created made these some of the best years of my professional career. I have and will continue to think of Jerry often; he is greatly missed.

Maria:

I am so sorry to hear about Jerry's passing. I was sent to work for Jerry a few years back by Don Harding. After the interview with Jerry, Don asked what I thought about what Jerry wanted me to do. I told Don I didn't understand why he sent me for the interview and I told Don that a "dog with a note in his mouth could do that job". Anyway a few days later, Don tells me that Jerry wanted the "dog with a note in his mouth" start working for him. That was the beginning of what I consider the best time I have ever had while working for Lockheed Martin. He was a great Mentor, Boss, and Friend. He will be missed.

I started my Career at Martin Marietta in '84. Jerry was the Test Enginering Manager at that time and it was a great pleasure to know and work with him. Throughout the years his name comes up often and this will continue, always with fond memories.
I am sorry for your loss and hope you find peace in knowing how many lives Jerry has touched.

Maria,
We are saddened to learn of Jerry's passing. We worked with Jerry for many years at LM. Working for him was enjoyable because of his everyday stories, humor, smiles and leadership ability. He inspired, and encouraged others to excel through education and working smarter, not harder. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Maria,
I worked with Jerry in the 70's on the PATRIOT program. After we met, we learned that our paths had crossed many years before. He went to college at Stevens Institute of Technology, Class of 67. I was Stevens, Class of 68. He was injured in Florida in his sophomore year. So, we never got to know each other at Stevens, but had a special bond as we worked together. Also, in 1973, my next-door neighbor was Brad Talley - I believe you worked with Brad.
Jerry was an exceptional engineer, an inspiration to so many people, and a remarkable person, with a great sense of humor. I remember a story about a conversation he had with Frank Malatesta, PATRIOT program director. Frank was chewing Jerry out about schedule. Jerry took it in stride. As he was leaving, Jerry said to Frank - "I'd hate to see what you do to blind people". Frank laughed, that was Jerry! I will miss him, and will keep him in my prayers.

God Bless,

Frank Niemas

I'm very sorry to hear the news and for your loss. I first met Jerry in the early 70's when he and I worked together as designers. He designed the test equipment to check out my hardware. Over the years it was always pleasant to see his smiling face when he would crack jokes. He was a special person.
