Scott Taylor Obituary

Born 30 September 1945 - Died 14 September 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Scott Bevan Taylor who left us on the morning of 14 September 2023. A native of Darien Connecticut, Scott is a graduate of The Citadel, Charleston, SC. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Scott then started his banking career at the First National Bank of South Carolina in 1970, then Chase Manhattan Bank, NA in New York. As Vice President of the Special Projects Division, he was responsible for handling large problem relationships at the bank including both Lockheed Aircraft and Chrysler Corporation's government guarantee loan programs during the 1970's. Scott also was the Director for Corporate Development of the Berol Corporation in Danbury, Connecticut.

In 1981 Scott founded The Taber Group, Inc. of Stamford, Connecticut. Taber was a computer graphic service (Scolane Productions) serving the corporate communications market in Connecticut and New York. In 1988 he founded Encore Data Services which provided computer data services for non-profits.

In 1995 Scott and his wife, the love of his life, Elaine, built a beautiful horse farm in Florida and became co-owners of Worldwide Orchids, Inc., a wholesale orchid nursery serving local brokers and chain stores east of the Mississippi. He was Chairman of the Board until his retirement in 2014.

Scott's financial and computer expertise combined with his love of video and still photography supported many not-for-profit organizations in Central Florida that included: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep - Providing the gift of remembrance portraits to parents experiencing the death of a baby, Audubon Florida and Florida Audubon Society Environmental Organization - Board of Directors and Treasurer, Audubon Center for Birds of Prey Environmental Organization - Chair, Advisor Committee, Aquatic Preserve Alliance of Central Florida Environmental Organization - Board Member and Treasurer, The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra - Board Member and Treasurer, Mothers' Milk Bank of Florida - Founder, Board Member and Treasurer, Opera Orlando, Volunteer providing photography and video production at: Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies, Arnold Palmer Hospital, Orlando Regional Medical Center, Advent Health Orlando and Nemours Children's Health Hospital. The Nature Conservancy, Canine Companions, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust USA, Inc. and Bach Festival of Winter Park, Florida. Of all this volunteerism, Scott always had a special place in his heart for all the "NICU" nurses that served the infant babies in the Orlando hospitals.

Scott and Elaine, his wife of 53 years, shared a passion for Africa and its people, visiting Kenya and Tanzania annually since the early 90's, which was later expressed in exquisite photography that Scott shared with everyone including family, friends and co-workers in an annual photo calendar around the Christmas holidays with messages of what one can do to care for the environment.

Scott is survived by his wife Elaine, two sons David and Austin, cherished grandchildren Lilly, Johnny, Gemma and Patrick, sister in-law Diane (Neil Saxton), siblings Malcolm (Rita), Barbara (Burton Porter), Mark and Deborah, cousin Brendan Burns (Margaret) and several nieces and nephews who experienced his warmth, humor and sharing nature at every family gathering. Scott is dearly remembered for all his "I love you" calls to his siblings that strengthened our closeness from faraway places.

Scott had a consummate appreciation for all things living and beautiful; animals, nature, music, and most of all his beloved Elaine, family and friends. There was no limit to his compassion and strength, especially through the health adversities of the past couple of years, he was a fighter!

I am so sorry to hear of Scott's passing. I am One of the bareaved mothers who's rescue he came to. I will never forget his kindness and him giving our sweet Adelaide her first and only gift. It was so special that we had a Molly Bears bear made to match it. His presence was so calming in our time of sorrow. We think of him often and he will certainly never be forgotten.

One of the nicest, kindest persons I have ever met. He shared many of his calendars with me when he volunteered at Arnold Palmer Hospital taking pictures and I worked at the desk. I know the door was wide open in heaven to welcome him. A wonderful person, who has been missed. My prayers are with family .

We were one of the few who got to call Scott our neighbor. Our home and land back up to his and Elaine's home. Visiting with Scott was always such a fun time! And during all of the uncertainty of the big road changes we always could call or visit with Scott and get information that helped reduce our stress. His African Calendars were such a great treat! Scott truly was a wise and extremely kind man. He shared himself, and when he saw need he helped. When we were informed of Scott's death it was such a big shock...our hearts go out to everyone who will miss him and especially his wife Elaine. We will miss you Scott.

Scott Taylor will be remembered for his vision and support for the Mother's Milk Bank of Florida.
He cared and loved the most vulnerable babies in our community and engaged and gave us all vision for the MMBFL to assist those babies first.
He is loved and will always be remembered.

Scott and I were often the "token" males in the pregnancy & Infant loss (PILR) meetings, and we got to know each other very well. When I mentioned that my organization (Angel of Hope) was considering putting together a video, he immediately offered to make it for us. That generosity of spirit defined him. I have had the privilege of seeing the results of his work with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep many times, and was always awed by what he could do with a camera. His kindness, compassion, and tireless devotion to a cause was inspiring to me. I am already missing him immensely. Our community has experienced a great loss. My sincerest condolences to all who knew him, especially his family.

Scott would pull out a $100 bill during a Perinatal Infant Loss Resource Network meeting when he heard of a grieving family in need. I think he kept a stack in his wallet for such times as these. He left an indelible mark on my heart and I am forever impacted by his generous and kind spirit. That will remain forever. Rest in peace my friend.

Truly a dear friend - beloved soul - George and I cherish our friendship with you, our memories shared, our many friend dinners and being by your side to help you the last few years as you fought like a warrior - you exuded such great strength. We will forever miss your smile and gentle soul - your love of people and animals and your immense gratitude. We love you Scott - we will watch over Elaine.

I often tell the story of the first day I met Scott and Elaine. I was in Real Estate and had gone into the office on a Sunday morning to catch up on some work. The phone rang and Scott asked if Real Estate agents work out here on Sundays, that he had called several offices and couldn't reach anyone that was available to help him. I told him I would be more than happy to help. He wouldn't tell me what he was looking for either he instructed me to pick him and Elaine up at their home in Apopka and he would tell me then. Now let me tell you that back then I didn't know anything about this guy and was weary of going to get him. I almost didn't. Then when I arrived in my old 4 wheel drive SUV, I was shocked and embarrassed of my vehicle. They quickly put me at ease, It's alright he said, we're going to go look for land, this vehicle is perfect for that. That was the beginning of a friendship I will always treasure. He was a friend to this community in ways that no one ever knew. RIP my friend. I hope you have found that lake in heaven to go fishing in.

My name is Barb and I was a NICU Nurse for 45 years. I met Scott at Winnie as he was always there taking or picking up pictures to present to the family of their passing baby. He was the KINDEST, GENTLE SOUL I ever met. We became super close as we bonded together. His photography is impeccable and I LOVED his African calendars they made. He told me to story of every picture!!! He was such a determined man but God was ready for him. He taught Roxanne Baggett everything he knew as she will caring on his wish. I will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart for my friend Scott. RIP !!! We will miss you and never forget what a wonderful person you were to everyone

I had the pleasure of serving on the Mount Plymouth-Sorrento Planning and Advisory Board with Scott for five years. He provided a calming presence in the hectic days of trying to steer our community to be a better place to live. Scott was an inspiration to me. He became a friend whom I will remember forever.

Scott was my friend as he was to those who were lucky to know him. The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Audubon Society were also lucky to benefit from his selfless involvement and support. I miss him as do all of the fortunate who knew him.

I'm really saddened of your wonderful father's death. He was an extraordinary man. There are many in the community who will mourn deeply his passing as his was a life of service, love, compassion and excellence. May he rest in peace.
