ELSIE BIXEL

ELSIE BIXEL Elsie G. Bixel, age 94, of Comins, MI, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, at her home. Elsie Bixel, was born on August 16, 1929, was the daughter of Lloyd and Ila Bugg from Curran, Michigan; she was one of nine siblings. She and Joe Bixel were married in 1951, lived in Comins, Michigan and together they had four children. In 1957, Joe and Elsie accepted the invitation from the American Sunday School Union to start a Sunday School in Loud Township. Their commitment lasted for three decades during which they led Sunday services, Vacation Bible School, and engaged in community evangelism. Elsie was always busy. Whether it was baking bread for a neighbor, sewing dresses for needy children, or delivering soup to sick friends, she did it all in the name of Christ. In recent years, she loved making quilts for the local Relief Auction. Throughout her life, Elsie undertook various professional roles such as serving 6 years as the secretary for the Fairview school, 10 years as conveyor for Michigan Crippled Children, 32 years as the clerk of Loud Township, 19 years as the Montmorency Tri-Township Ambulance Service secretary/treasurer, 40 years as the secretary/treasurer of Montmorency Tri-Township Fire Department, 10 years as 4-H club leader, many years as an adult sewing instructor and a tailor. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband in 2014. She is survived by her two sons, Howard and Joel Bixel, as well as her two daughters, Barbara Smith and Kathy Halleck. Elsie's loving memory is cherished by her 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Comins Community Church from 10:00 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon, with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating.
