Caroline Stanley Obituary

Caroline Stanley
Caroline Elizabeth Stanley, 83, passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2024. She was a loyal, kind, and compassionate friend, cherished by all who knew her. Carol was born in 1940 in Waterbury, Connecticut. She was proud of her work as a volunteer in the VISTA Program teaching under-privileged children in Florida. While she was in VISTA, she was introduced to her roommate's brother, Fred Stanley, who turned out to be the love of her life. They married in 1969 and moved to Michigan, where she became a teacher's aide to developmentally challenged students at Ashman School in Midland, Michigan before becoming a stay-at home mom in 1973.
She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband Frederick Warren Stanley, Jr in 1991, she is survived by her two children Fred and Liz Stanley, her cherished daughter-in-law Beth Stanley and her three beloved grandchildren Thomas and Kristen Stanley and Will Bernhardt. She also leaves behind her "sister of the heart" Allie Johnson and the group affection known as "the moms".
She was a voracious reader, passionate Civil War historian, adventurous eater, and devoted Grammie. During her time on this earth, she traveled to New Zealand and Australia, took a cruise to Alaska with her friend of 50+ years Bill Lang and voyaging through the Panama Canal.
She will be remembered for her intelligence, warmth, humor and the joy she brought into the lives of her family and friends. Carol's legacy of compassion, curiosity, and love for life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Funeral services for Caroline will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street.
