Frank Engler Obituary

Frank Engler
Frank Engler, 81, a long time resident of Beaverton, MI passed away at Stone Lodge Memory Care in Shepherd, MI on Monday, December 27, 2021. Frank was born May 2, 1940 the son of Michael and Matilda (Kahl) Engler in Menominee, MI. He was a trade school graduate in Accounting from what is now Michigan Career and Technical Institute of Plainwell, MI and worked for Kalamazoo Label Company. He then studied education at Western Michigan University and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees. He spent 31 years as a teacher for students with physical disabilities or other health impairments (27 years with the Clare-Gladwin Intermediate School District). On December 29, 1962, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Florence Dickerson, in Bloomingdale, MI. They spent the next 58 years together raising 5 children. He attended the Beaverton United Methodist Church for over 45 years and volunteered many years with the Sacred Heart Mission in Gladwin, Michigan. He supported Beaverton athletic events, served on the school board, and was a foster parent. Frank was a sincere, kind and considerate man. "How are you doing?" was not a synonym for "hello" with Frank. He took a genuine interest in those that he crossed paths with. Frank loved to do what he could do to brighten someone's day. He was a long time fan of the music and philosophies of Johnny Cash. He lived the lyrics for one of Johnny Cash's songs "... But I'll try to carry off A little darkness on my back Till things are brighter...." Besides collecting Johnny Cash records, Frank also collected Green Bay Packer football cards and comic books. Since he lost his father at the age of one, his most valued collection was his family.
He considered his 5 children and 12 grandchildren the greatest blessing in his life. He is survived by his wife: Florence; children: Michael (Sarah) Engler, Luke (Sandy) Engler, Patti (Paul) Foster, Beth Engler-James, and John (Jamie) Engler; 12 grandchildren: Ritz, Peggy (Daniel), Emma, Leah, Tad, Quinn, Rushawn, Ben, Isabelle, Matthew, Jaxson, and Katherine.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Michael and Matilda (Kahl) Engler.
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made via PayPal to [email protected] or send checks to F. Engler at PO Box 206,Beaverton, MI 48612.
