Janet Lang Obituary

Janet Glover Lang, 93, a longtime resident of Midland, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 3, 2016, at Story Point Assisted Living. Janet was born in Brown City, Mich., Aug. 8, 1923, as the daughter, and only child, of the late Hugh W. and Frances R. Glover. The Glover family subsequently moved to Midland in 1933. Janet graduated from Midland High School in 1942, then studied business at University of Michigan, where she forever became an avid U of M football fan. On March 25, 1945, in Midland, she married Laurence C. Lang. After Laurence had served his country during World War II, he completed his studies in pharmacy, leaving Ann Arbor in 1949. They returned to Midland, where he began working for her father, Hugh Glover, at Glover Pharmacy on Ashman and Main Street. Lynn Woodcock, "Uncle Lynn," also a pharmacy graduate of U of M, began his 40-year career in 1952 at Glover Pharmacy. Working with Hugh and Larry Lynn became a lifelong friend of the Glover and Lang families. Janet and Lynn shared a love of University of Michigan and Coke Cola.

The Langs designed and built their first home on the Chippewa River in 1957. There, Janet resided until selling the family home to their daughter, Janet, and son-in-law, Dann, Cannon in 2014.

Laurence and Janet relocated Glover's Circle store to 4000 Jefferson St., beginning their own pharmacy business in 1971, under the Glover name. Working together until their retirement in 1994, then selling the business to Ted and Jane Toland. Janet was very proud of the independent pharmacy her father started in 1933, which is still operating as Glover Pharmacy after 82 years. Janet and Larry built and operated Heritage Arms Apartments while owning other commercial and residential real estate in Midland and Traverse City. Janet maintained a devoted passion for Midland's downtown business community through her life. They both avidly enjoyed memberships in two stock clubs, belonging to Chippewa High Rollers and J. Vesters.

Janet loved listening to country music, playing bridge, solitaire, collecting antique glassware, reading romance novels, genealogy, traveling and being with her friends, "the Gang," for over 65 years in Midland. She adored her two 5-foot "Midland Trolls" in her front yard. They smiled at her every day through warm weather months, until put to bed for the winter.

Like her mother, Frances Glover, she was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, Midland County Historical Society, Monday Club, Eastern Star, Society of Mayflower Descendants, Huguenot Society, Daughters of American Revolution, Daughters of the Barons of Runnemede, Jamestown Society, First Families of Virginia, Women Descendants of Ancient and Honorable Artillery Co., Daughters of the Union, U. S. Daughters of 1812, Colonial Order of the Crown of Charlemagne and numerous other genological societies.

Surviving are her children, Stephen Glover (Ulrike) Lang MD of Gottingen, Germany, Laurence Claude (Mary Jo) Lang II DDS of Traverse City, Janet Lang (Dann) Cannon of Midland; grandchildren, Matthew Glover Lang, Andrew Charles Lang, Hannah Alice Sophie Lang and Courtney Glover Cannon, of whom she was very proud and brought her great joy. Her extended family "the Gang," included Don and Niki Beckwith, Max and Martha Bottomly, Al and Carolyn Gunkler, Bill and Bonnie Kennett, Pete and Gloria Lehman, Bill and Sue Marklewitz, Mike and Grace Merrill, Bob and Marge Mesler, Bob and Helen Ward.

We would like to extend a special thanks from Janet and her family, to her caregivers at Story Point and Stratford Village for their love, kindness and daily care.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lang will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Wallace H. Mayton III officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Midland City Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. I am so sorry to hear of Janet's passing. Glover's Drug Store was a very good neighbor to my husband and I. We lived next door to the store for 34 years, most of them during the time Janet and Larry had the store. Janet was always so friendly and courteous. I have many fond memories of both of them.

Sincerely,
Becky and Jon Zimmer and Family

Dear Glover Lang family, I wish to send you my sorrow to all of you. I know although we have never met, I have know about your mother and had always wanted to meet her. Great Uncle Hugh and Aunt Frances Glover was the reason I learned my passion for genealogy. Uncle Hugh copied some snippets from from the family bible so many years ago. When I was about 14 or 15. My Great grand parents were Magdelena Glover and Ezra Delivan McKee. My grand parents were Hugh Ezra McKee and Mabel Jane Orchard-McKee. My father was Hugh Wendell (known as Wendell) McKee and Thelma Elizabeth Talmage-McKee. I grew up between Brown City and North Branch. My parents are burried in the same cemetary that Uncle Hugh and Aunt Frances is buried near North Branch and my grandparent and Great grandparents Ezra and "Lena" McKee.
Uncle Hugh was a wonderful man and helped me get started with the with the genealogy. I've been so grateful for his start and encouragement to get me started.
I am so sorry for your loss, and can relate with this since I just lost my mother just a year ago.
Could some one contact me and maybe we can get together with each other. my email address is [email protected] or [email protected] or (989) 737-5536
and my home address is 2643 Ash Drive, Carleton, MI 48117

condolences to all of you
your cousin
