Richmond - Robert Ludwig Werner, age 87, of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Golden Living Center-Golden Rule.

Born October 17, 1930, in Richmond, Indiana, to Karl George and Pauline Drescher Werner, Bob was a life-long resident of Richmond. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1949. Bob served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Alcoa in 1997, where he had served for 36 years and was an Alcoa 25-Year Club member. Bob was an active, life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was previously active at the Richmond Senior Community Center and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Below Bob's photo in the 1949 Richmond High School Pierian were the words, "If you're in a jam and need a helping hand, call Bob." How true he lived that throughout his life.

Survivors include his sister, Marilyn (John) Adkins of Richmond; brothers, George (Willadene) Werner of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and William "Bill" (Venna) Werner and Adolph "Ott" (Norma) Werner, both of Richmond; sisters-in-law, Colleen Werner and Ruth Ann Carter, both of Richmond; nieces; nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Goodin Werner; parents; brothers, Fritz, Henry, and Walter Werner; and sister-in-law, Janet Werner.

Visitation for Robert Ludwig Werner will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, 501 South 7th Street, Richmond with Pastor Joyce Gerwing-Grimm and Rev. Robert C. Meckley officiating. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
