LEINWAND, A. David

A. David Leinwand, passed away on May 21, 2014 at the age of 81 from complications of myelodysplasia. Born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on August 9, 1932, David graduated from Stuyvesant High School and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, class of '53. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 58 years, Carole (Kleinman), his adored children, Andrea and Jeffrey Kaminsky, Laurie and Phillip Gildan of North Palm Beach, and Janet and Andrew Bein. He was predeceased by his beloved son, James. He was a most proud papa to his eight grandchildren, Brett, Stephen, Tyler, Jacob, Warren, Jacqueline, Hannah and Alexander. He is also survived by two older brothers, Dr. Gerald Leinwand and Calvin Leinwand of Delray Beach, and many nieces and nephews. David served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and was co-owner of Rosetta Electric Company for over 40 years with his brother, Calvin. In his retirement, David earned a master's degree in history from NYU. After volunteering at schools in Manhattan, he became an adjunct professor of history, primarily at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. He loved opera at the Met, travel, tennis, and reading, and was New York's number one Yankee fan. Donations in David's name may be made to the James L. Leinwand Fund, care of Westchester Community Foundation, 200 North Central Park Avenue, Suite 310, Hartsdale, New York 10530. We loved him and will cherish his memory.
