Memories and Condolences
for Benjamin BROWN

Not sure what to say?

January 29, 2020

It is almost 6 years since I lost one of my best friends.

We were an unlikely combo, a tan suave blonde dude from Florida and a pale geeky engineer from the north. We hated each other at first, rowing freshman crew together.

Over time we bonded over beer, humor, and useless trivia.

I had the honor to stand up with him the day he got married, and learn to love his wife and beloved family.

The last time I saw him was at a Cornell reunion, post shark attack. It was a great time as usual.

Benjamin, 'Willis Reed really took to the hoop that day I tell you '

Always a smile. Ben was a true "great guy." I am stunned. The world is a little worse off. My thoughts go to Jonna and the girls. I know they were the center of his world.

I was very sad to hear about the passing of Ben Brown. Condolences to his extended family. He was a friend and a fraternity brother from Cornell University, he rushed me when I was a freshman and he was a seniour. He was an avid socializer and had a great sense of humour back in those days. He had a great dog Gator who lived in the house with us, and Ben loved his dog dearly. I later visited him when he was a law student at Florida University in Gainesville when he was a law student so long ago. Unfortunately we lost touch over the years but as life would have it, he lived right down the street from my family in Juno Beach and I didn't know it. Sorry I hadn't been in touch. I read about Ben's shark incident after his passing and realized it was great he survived he attack and was able to live for another 11 years after that and be a blessing to his family. I've attached a picture of Ben from his Cornell years, just as I remember him and our brothers.

When I think back on some of the most fun I had growing up in South Florida, most of those memories involve Ben. So intelligent, talented and wise beyond his years. A fierce competitor yet he was where the fun was. It is hard to believe he is no longer here. I liked the world better knowing he was in it. Mr. and Mrs. Brown, Bob, Bowen, Melissa and all of you - I am so deeply sad for this devastating loss. Sending loving thoughts to all of you.

I first came to speak with Ben in August of 2014. It was a long time friend of Ben's who recommend I use him to handle an estate issue for my son. The exact words that were used were "Call Ben Brown I would trust him to handle my own estate." So I did. Ben did more than just handle the legal end he showed compassion and understanding to my young son who had just lost his dad. He never rushed my son off the phone and tried to answer as many questions as he could. It's important that I pass along that Ben spoke to my son about his children, the conversation was kept simply about school and how proud he was of them. Your dad has touched many people and although we had never met my son and I are so deeply sorry to hear of his passing.
