Family-Placed Obituary

BILLY E. SMITH Billy, a long time resident of West Palm Beach passed away on Sunday, August 24 at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 93. Billy was born in Elberton, Georgia and moved to West Palm Beach in 1937. In 1960, he established Billy Smith Wheel Alignment and Brakes, Inc., in downtown West Palm Beach. Billy was one of a handful of local merchants who have continued to operate in the downtown area for close to 50 years. In 2006, he was the honorary recipient of the City of West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Post Trail Blazer Award. With thousands of loyal customers, Billy will be fondly remembered for his commitment to honest and reliable automotive repair services. Billy is survived by his three daughters Patti Smith, Gloria Shaw, and Bunny Hiatt, and one son, Mike; sisters, Lillian and Dallys; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 30 years, Marie, his brother, Al and sisters, Jewett, Sally and Louise. Billy's memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home 1201 S. Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach 33401 with a reception to follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Billy and his family request for donations to be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach 33407. Although we did not personally know Mr. Smith very well, through Patty and Bob, we felt that we were a part of his life. Listening to stories over the last few years formed a clear vision of the upstanding person that he was. May he have peace for eternity.
