Bob Davidoff Obituary

Family-Placed Funeral Notice

BOB DAVIDOFF Prominent photographer Bob Davidoff, who passed away peacefully Saturday October 9, 2004, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and soon to be great grandfather. His granddaughters, Cara, Jennifer & Alicia were the light of his life. He could not wait to hold his first great granddaughter, due to be born in February. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Marblehead. During his service he participated in the D-Day invasion and was awarded the Silver Star for Bravery. He was the Winter White House photographer during the Kennedy years in Palm Beach and remained close with the Kennedy family for the rest of his life. He generously donated around 100 photographs to the Kennedy library in Boston. In 2001 he was deservingly awarded the “Unsung Hero Award” by the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce. His happiest moments were when he was out taking photographs, second only to the precious times he spent with his loving wife, Babe. He was proud that his sons, Kenneth, Michael and Daryl followed in his footsteps and will continue to carry on the Davidoff legacy of society photography. Besides his sons and granddaughters, he is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Babe; his nieces, Madelyn Mark and Maxine Guttman; his nephews, Freddy and Joel Davies; his daughter-in-law, Maxine Davidoff and her children Emily Moreno and Matthew Swig; as well as many more adoring friends and family members. Private family services will be held. A public memorial will be announced at a later date. Arrangements handled by All County Funeral Home Lake Worth, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to any charity of choice.

Dear Davidoff Family,

Daryl kept me up on the family at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches meetings but the legacy of Bob Davidoff were the many stories other people told of his wit and being at the right place at the right time. I loved just looking at his pictures in his office and felt he was a walking history book of Palm Beach. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Heartfelt condolences to the wonderful Davidoff family.

My deepest condolences go to the fantastic family left by this wonderful man. As a young person, I admired Mr. Davidoff because he was a photographer and I wanted to be a photographer. Later in life I managed a camera store and sold Mr. Davidoff supplies on occasion. There I learned that as well as being an accomplished photographer with an enviable portfolio, he was also a very nice man.

Farewell Lensman, they don't make them like you anymore.

I knew Bob through my grandmother who was the chief telephone operator at the Lido Beach Hotel and the Palm Beach Hotel. Her name was Marguerite Middleton but everyone called her Middy. I worked at the Lido summers when I was a teenager and Bob would come in and take pictures of us at the switchboard and also other candid shots that I still have. He was working with Mort Kaye at the time. My grandmother always spoke highly of him and so did everyone at the Lido(myself included)

Deepest sympathy

I will never forget the wonderful photos Mr. Davidoff took of my father, Senator Ralph J. Blank Jr. and President Kennedy in November 1963 at the Palm Beach Airport. They are framed on my wall and have given me years of pleasure. Thank you for the wonderful lasting memory. Mr. Davidoff will always be a part of our family through these photos. My thoughts and prayers go out to his Family.

As a Police officer in the Town , it was always intresting to see Bob show up in some very strange places. He always made me laugh with the reasons for being there and how he entered to property. Bob will be remembered as a great photographer and having a fast wit. Memories are kept alive forever with his past work.

Sorry for the loss, and best to the family

Dear Babe and family,

My grandmother Gloria Mosch worked for you for over 30 years and our families have grown together. My family was so sorry to hear the passing of Bobby. He was truly loved and very talented. We have many beautiful photo's to remind us of his talent. My grandmother was heart broken when she heard the news. She loves you all like you are her family. Please know that we wish you the best in the time of hardship.

Like Jamie Grant, I knew of Bobby Davidoff thru my father, Hayes Garbarino. As District Manager for Florida State Theaters, Dad had a lot of events that required photographs - and Bobby Davidoff was The Man.

American Cancer Society Benefits at the Paramount, premieres, special promotions, Bobby was always there. He also shot all of our weddings. Used his pull to get my sister's bridal picture on the cover of The Palm Beach Weekly Guide.

Bobby was one of the first adults that didn't talk down to me when I was a kid. And during the early years of my television career,he was my role model for learning how to shoot people and events without getting in the way and making people comfortable in front of the camera.

This summer I reconnected with Babe to get prints of my wedding as a 30th Wedding Anniversary gift for my wife. It was great to learn Bobby was finally putting out a collection of his great work.

Farewell, Mr, Davidoff. Thanks for being so nice to a kid hanging out around the Florida Theatre.

I was so sorry to learn of Bob's passing via CNN. My father Marshall Grant was close with Bob, and I personally remember visiting Bob's studio in Palm Beach when my father would take me along with him on business. He was always very friendly towards me. I immediately recalled his face when I heard the news, and even after 30 plus years, now that I see his picture it's exactly as I remember it.

I'm sure many pictures in Bob's collection were at events where my father's orchestra performed, and I'm sure many other pictures were taken at my father's former restaurant, Marshall Grant's (which then became the Shiny Sheet's offices).

I am very happy to hear that the family is keeping the business going, and I hope they will work towards publishing the collections of Bob's work, both in hard copy and via the internet. This great man should be remembered.

Thanks to the Post for providing this opportunity for me to share my rememberances of Bob.
