Dorothy CHAMBERLAIN Obituary

CHAMBERLAIN, Dorothy Amend
Dorothy Amend Chamberlain died peacefully at home on the evening of April 3, 2016, in Jupiter, FL, after a brief illness. She was ninety-four years old. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Wilsdon Amend of Evanston, IL. Her family had moved to the Middle West from New England in the nineteenth century, and she was directly descended from the Rev. Thomas Hooker, founder of the Connecticut colony, and Edward Rawson, first Colonial Secretary of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Her father was the inventor, manufacturer and owner of Chuckles Candies. She attended the Roycemore School for girls in Evanston, IL and after she graduated from there was sent East to the all-female Bradford Junior College in Massachusetts for two years. She returned to Evanston to attend Northwestern University, and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, finishing her undergraduate degree in 1944. She had known her husband, Richard Leroy Chamberlain, of sixty-six years since the two were in dancing school together as children on the north shore of Chicago. They married in 1946, while her husband was a junior officer in the United States Army Air Corps. They lived in the northern suburbs of Chicago and had three boys-one in 1947, one in 1949 and the last in 1962. Mrs. Chamberlain was a member of Chicago Women's Athletic Club and played a prominent role in various charities, especially Infant Welfare. Mrs. Chamberlain and her husband often traveled, and summered in Michigan for many years. In 1968, her husband sold his business interests and moved to Florida with their youngest son. They were members of Tequesta Country Club, and Mrs. Chamberlain was an enthusiastic bridge player. Her family had long supported the Republican Party-she was related to President William Howard Taft-and, she continued to support the Party throughout her life. Her husband died in 2012. She is survived by two of her sons: Richard Amend Chamberlain of Creswell, OR and Douglas Amend Chamberlain of Jamestown, RI. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Joshua, Noah, Thomas and Charles; two great-grandsons, Elijah and Henry; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Chamberlain's middle son, Steven Amend Chamberlain died in 2008. There will be a private internment in Chicago, IL at a future date.

Dear family I am so sorry for your loss. May the God of comfort be with you during this difficult time. 1 Timothy 1:11 says that God is a happy God so he will help you to be happy.

Dear friends and family of Dorothy,
Unlike imperfect humans, God does not lie and whatever he sets out to be done, will be done. God will rid the sadness we feel, especially when we lose someone so precious and loved like Dorothy. May you find assurance in God's words at Isaiah 55:11.

Best wishes.
