As the 17th anniversary of your passing approaches, I still find it difficult to believe that you are no longer on this earth. Your death was one of a series of losses in my life during that first decade and a half of the 21st century-and you were and are deeply missed. You were my professor and my friend; I cherish the dinners with you and Dick in Atlantic Avenue restaurants as much as I do the instruction and guidance you offered throughout my masters program. I did not finish my PhD, but I would not have even begun if not for your encouragement.
Resquiescat in pace, my teacher, mentor, and friend.

Howard--

For many years you were my colleague, and one of the people at FAU I truly trusted. I regret that you did not have more time to enjoy your retirement after serving the community for so long.

Dr. Pearce, you helped me find the hidden worlds lurking in literature, leading me down the most profitable paths in your life of the mind. Thank you.

God Bless you, Dr. Pearce--You inspired me to go back to grad school to get the Ph.D. I did, at age 52. I will always be grateful to you. Thanks for sharing your brilliant mind with us, your adoring students.
