LAREMONT, Dr. Katia T.

Dr. Katia T. Laremont, age 50, died unexpectedly on June 22, 2014, at her home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Dr. Laremont was born April 23, 1964 in Panama City, Panama to Earl and Claire Greaves (Laremont Smith). Katia graduated from Silver Creek Central School in 1983 and earned her Bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1987. She completed her Medical School training at the University of Buffalo, in 1991. She then completed her Ob-Gyn residency at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins. Dr. Laremont was a board certified fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and in 2001 opened Village Women's Health Care with the personal mission of providing compassionate and innovative patient care with a personalized touch. Dr. Laremont was a member of the Palm Beach County Medical Association, the T. Leroy Jefferson Medical Society and the American Urogynecology Association. She was an active member of St. Juliana Catholic Church and was Vice-President of the Council of Catholic Women. Katia enjoyed playing golf with her husband and running in her spare time, and recently completed half marathon with the Leukemia & Lymphona Society Team in Training. She is survived by her husband, Herman Walker, her adoptive father James E. Smith of West Palm Beach, FL, her sisters Liza (Jon A.) Smith of Silver Creek, NY, Dr. Raquel Schmidt (Jari Wallach) of Buffalo, NY, and her niece Claire Smith of Buffalo, NY. She was predeceased in 2009 by her mother Claire Laremont Smith. Funeral services will be held on 10 a.m., Monday, June 30, at St Juliana Catholic Church. Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace cemetery in 10941 Southern Blvd, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411 Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception at the Parish Hall immediately following the burial. Memorial contributions are welcome and should be mailed to the St Juliana Catholic School scholarship fund, which will be used to provide tuition assistance to students in financial need, 4500 S Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach, FL 33405 Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at St Juliana's Catholic Church for their help and support.

In May of 2015, I expressed my feelings about Dr. Laremont. I can only say the same things. I had mentioned how she was the one, not my general doctor at the time, that found out I had an obstruction in my gall bladder. She directed me to get an ultrasound that found the stones, and pointed out to me that the results showed a large one stuck in the neck of my gall bladder. Had it not been for her, I may have an a serious problem. She was our all around doctor. She examined more parts that the other doctors in her field. She examined and paid attention to our overall health. She always advised me to quit smoking and she was so happy when I did. I was stunned when I found out she had passed suddenly. To this day, I still don't know what happened to her. I found the line off when I called to schedule my yearly. She was so healthy and active and worked hard to keep us all that way. I think about her often.
I mention to people that she was the best. I am still sad to this day because her family, all of us, and the world lost a wonderful person. I have still not been able to replace her no matter who I try and probable never will. If anyone knows more about what happened to her, please text me to make a contact with me.

I know she is still with me, but the pain of her loss has not lessened---she was my cheerer-upper, counsel, and always had faith that I could do what ever i attempted. So devastated to find an obituary instead of a new phone number or location for the World's Greatest Doctor. My Mom and I went to the office to schedule my annual appt. but the door was locked. I was so shocked to find out about Dr. Laremont's passing. I cannot stop crying. I saw her last year in early June and I cannot believe that shortly after, she passed. I just found out about our loss when I called
to make an appt. for my annual checkup with one of the best doctors I knew. I want her family to know what an impact she has made on her patients. So much, that I cannot stop crying right now. She was not just our gynecologist, she cared about our overall health. She was the one who told me to get an ultrasound that found I had stones in my gall bladder. She also drew me a picture to show how large the stone in the neck of my gall bladder was and to see a surgeon immediately. She was on top of my health more than my general doctor was. She was beautiful, kind, intelligent, caring and I am so so sorry for her family.

Dr. Laremont had been my doctor for over 15 years and delivered my second daughter. She was the most compassionate and friendliest doctor I have been to and she was truly a blessing in my life. One year, I brought my daughter that she delivered and she wanted to take a picture with her so she could have it in her gallery. Dr. Laremont may you rest in peace. I'm in total shock right now. I just found out that you passed away in June. You were my favorite Dr. My heart is truly broken right now. I went to her for over 12 years. A few years ago she did my surgery that took over 13 hours. She was so caring and kind to my husband during that time. She would come out just to reassure him I was okay. I never had meet a caring doctor like her before. She always had a smile and took her time with you as her patient. Dr. Laremont was my doctor for almost ten years. She was a wonderful doctor - very caring and wonderful sense of humor. She spent over an hour with me when I was in a very dark emotional period. Always looked forward to seeing her, laughing over latest political issues and talking about what this country needed. I regarded her as more than my doctor. Am so sad to hear of her passing. I just found out about the sudden passing of Dr. Laremont when calling for an appointment. She was such a caring doctor and took her time with you. I would always tell her ," you know you could pass for Mrs. Michelle Obama's double" and that made her smile really get big.

Dr. Laremont was there for me when my husband passed away 8 mths ago when I arrived for my annual visit in a depressed anxious state. Her love, & compassion far exceeded any Dr. I have encountered. Katia was the daughter of a dear friend and colleague of mine, Claire Smith, and I heard the pride in Claire's voice every time she mentioned Katia. After reading about all that Katia has done, I can see the pride was definitely justified. I felt the need to write this when I found out about a very respected Doctor, colleague and friend's unexpected death. I was shocked and very saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Laremont. She was highly respected St. Marys by the nurses, patients, and other physicians she worked with and/ or took such good care of. She, not only went the extra mile for them, equally, she would go the extra mile for us. Her floor nurses, her CNA's, all the floor personnel that aided in patient satisfaction and positive outcomes she always gave praise. The way that I, personally, felt about her was she wanted positive outcomes for everyone she touched in her life. She will be greatly missed by myself, and I am sure I speak for everyone here at St. Mary's, as well. I grieve for her family, our hospital and our community for her loss.

Katia literally saved my life. During a surgery to remove a large complex ovarian cystic mass, Katia & the assisting oncologist identified a mass in the wall of my stomach. This mass was later identified as a GIST. Early detection & removal are critical with this type of tumor, as there are limited effective therapies. I will miss her and always be grateful for her excellent medical care & the gift of the life she saved.
