I have the fondest memories of being an active church member of Greater Antioch Baptist Church in Rock Island,Illinois. A young dynamic pastor Rev Lance Chaney and his beautiful wife Marilane were awesome leaders of our family oriented loving church. Being military affiliated my family moved often. It was always important to me to have a church home wherever I was. Rev Chaney and his congregation took me and my children in and showed us Christian love. It was a joy to my soul to hear him preach the word of God. I totally enjoyed every minute I spent under his leadership. The church did so many wonderful things in the community with Rev Chaney leading us. His sincere welcoming smile was ever present when you entered the church or saw him out in the community. His beautiful wife was always at his side. She was a wonderful person to be around,as beautiful inside as out. We were an active church and she was very involved and we had so many fun times as a church family. I cherish those memories always. I´m still saddened to find out that he´s gone these many years. I always imagined him and his family doing well. Alex was only a toddler when my family got orders to move. I held him and played with him often,he was a delightful child the image of his father. At church we all love and adored him and every one wanted their share of time with him. He had the cutest smile and was a blessing to our congregation. May God be with his beautiful family as they remember him. He was truly a blessing to all who knew him. I would love to reach out to his wife and kids but have no address or anything. I have a pic from long ago I´d like to share with them. Praying wherever they are that God will bless them and keep them safe. Linda Guster/Christian friend & former member of Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Rock Island,Illinois

I can't explain it but Greater Antioch, Pastor Lance Chaney&his lovely wife Marilane &children have crossed my mind many times thru out the years. I've always kept them in my prayers no matter where I made my next home at. Working for the Government my family moved a lot. I found a great place to worship at Greater Antioch. Pastor Chaney & First Lady Marilane welcomed me and my children into their church family. I was an active member singing in the choir and participating in church activities. I remember their young son Alex very well. He was a young toddler when my family received orders to move again. He a delightful little boy looking like his Dad. Two of my daughters were of age accepted Christ and Pastor Chaney saw to their being baptized. You felt the Love in Greater Antioch. I have never forgotten the kindness of this young Pastor Chaney his lovely wife Marilane & the Greater Antioch church family shown to me and my children. I thought I would try to find the address and send a card to say hello from a long ago member, when I ran across a pic of a church picnic with Pastor Chaney in it. I was shocked when it popped up that he had passed away several years ago. He was a man of great faith and I am very sad to find out he is no longer with us. Sorry for the long post but it is the only way I felt I could express how well thought of he and his wife are to me. My deepest condolences First Lady Marilane ,Alex,Ashley&Allison. God bless you all . First Lady Marilane I never forgot how welcomed you made me feel and how nice you were to me.

What a great, yet humble man. Always displaying concern for others and showing them the love of Christ. Pastor Chaney eulogized my son who was murdered in 2011. Although he didn't know me, I will never forget the love, concern, and kindness that he showed for my
family. Thank you Pastor Chaney for being there for us. To his wife, children, and to the entire St John family, you are all in my prayers.

Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach. 1 Timothy 3,2.
To the Chaney family, those words describe Reverend Lance Chaney. He was a loving, kind and gentle pastor who was not afraid to show the world how much he loved God with his "David like" spirit. I feel truly blessed to have known such a great man. I know he is in heaven worshiping among the saints.

Rev. Chaney was more than a Pastor for me and my family... He was a big part of my Spiritual growth.
I thank God for the time I was blessed to have him in my life.
Sis. Chaney you have always been a "Woman" after Gods own heart, my prayers will forever be with you.
Alex, Ashley, & Allison I pray that you choose this time to remember ALL that your dad has taught you throughout your life. Take his words and his smile with you on your own life journey.
May God bless and be with you all during this time.

Love,
Mar'Shell

To the Chaney family. My deepest sympathy to you and your church family. Rev. Chaney was a childhood friend of my two brothers Brian and Tyrone McGinnis. They as well as the rest of the people of Rock Island (Quad Cities) are sadden. I came to know Rev. Chaney when he stepped into my church home back in the 80's, which is now named Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a dynamic speaker, who will be missed. He has filled his job duties on this earth, now it's time to continue in heaven.

Reverend Chaney will never be forgotten! He has left a legacy that we can all strive to continue. I cannot find the words to express my sincere gratitude for all the days he gave me hope, encouragement and peace of mind through his sermons. He was so special God saw his pain by this terrible disease and wanted his child to come home. God knows best! My sympathy goes out to the Chaney Family. God will take care of you.
