Mario SCINICARIELLO Obituary

SCINICARIELLO, Mario
Mario Scinicariello, 67, owner of the legendary original Mario the Baker restaurant of North Miami, Sunrise and currently Royal Palm Beach, lost his 18 month battle with cancer on Monday, February 29. Born to John and Palmina Scinicariello in Stamford, Connecticut, Mario grew up in the family restaurant business. There, he opened his first restaurant at the age of 18, where it flourished until he opted for a warmer climate and moved to North Miami in 1969. He then built and opened his first Mario the Baker in South Florida. During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Suzanne, and they immediately started their family. Suzanne and their three children, Mina, John and Matthew were his greatest passion. Aside from the restaurant, he loved spending the day playing a round of 18 whether it be with his family or his many great friends from Adios Golf club in Deerfield Beach or Mayacoo Golf and Country club in West Palm Beach, not to mention anticipating a spirited game of gin afterwards. Mario's Italian heritage and culture made him the unique person that he was. He loved nothing more than sitting around the dining table with family enjoying a dish of macaroni with gravy and meatballs and a nice glass of Brunello, always followed with 'un bel espresso'.Mario leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Suzanne, his adored children: daughter, Palmina Puebla, son-in-law Kevin Puebla, who he loved as if he was his own son, sons; John (l'amore di papa) and Matthew; his three precious grandchildren, Giuseppe, Francesca and Luciano, his brother and sister and law, Ralph and Armanda Scinicariello. We also want to acknowledge Giovanni Ferro, Gale Parker, Doreen and Kevin Donnelly, Eileen Tomasini for their constant help and never ending love and support through this difficult journey. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made for research to
Sarcoma Foundation of America, cure sarcoma.org. or Sarcoma Foundation of America 9899 Main Street, Suite 204, Damascus, MD. 301-253-868 Family and friends may visit from 5 PM - 8 PM on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Palms West Funeral Home. A wake service will begin at 7:30 PM. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church. Mario will be entombed 4:00 PM at Boca Raton Cemetery and Mausoleum.

Suzie and Family: The first time I went to Mario the Baker's in North Miami was in 1970, when I was dating my husband, while he was home on leave from the U. S. Navy. When we married in 1972, going to Mario's became a WEEKLY tradition. And, when our babies were old enough, they were introduced to Mario's World Famous Garlic Rolls, minus the garlic and oil. Our sons gummed the garlic rolls, when they were teething. If there was a line outside the restaurant, and there usually was, Mario would come outside and give everyone a garlic roll. Walking into Mario's, we were greeted like family, the Waitresses knew us by name! Suzie and I were friends, years before she met Mario. Suzie and I went to high school together and worked at Publix together. No matter where we moved (Homestead, Naples), we always found our way back to Mario's. Thank you for all the wonderful memories and meals. Our deepest condolences to Suzie, Mina, John, Matthew and John the Baker (Mario's nephew), along with John's wife Patty and family. May Mario Rest In Peace and may all of you find comfort in all the wonderful years you shared together! God Bless You All.

So sorry to hear about Mario. Our family have been constant customers from Sunrise to Palm Beach. May he rest in peace.

March 8, 2016

As a Piper student in the 80's I spent a lot of time eating at the Sunrise store. When I moved to Palm Beach, I introduced my Children to Marios. Being from CT myself Mario would talk to me about our home state. The most memorable moment came when one of my young sons asked him if he was the Mario from the video game. RIP sir.

It is said that when we come into this life, we cry and others are joyous. We should live our lives in such a manner that when we leave this life, others are tearful and we are joyful.
With Mario, ...this is so....

Such sad news. We spent SO MANY afternoons and evenings at Mario the Baker while growing up in North Miami. You always felt like you were at a friends house for dinner when you walked in the door. {and there was always a line at the door!} So many teams, groups, bands and families will have those memories forever.

Mario and I were classmates in high school and I always wished I had his "cool" take on life. Plus, his family restaurant was our go to place for great pizza. Even today, his pizza is the standard against which all other is judged. So very sorry to learn of his passing.

I hadn't seen Mario since our high school days. We played basketball together...despite his height, he was an excellent player; very quick and an excellent shooter. I recall he was a great guy and 'street smart' beyond his years. I'm pleased and not surprised to read of his great business successes and overall happy, loving, life. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
