Think about you and all the times we had just about every day. From tattoos to betting xboxs and the bowling lanes lol. I have you tattooed on my arm and embedded in my heart brother. That was a platoon of marines and a time in my life I will never forget. God bless you and your family especially your mother who you always talked about.

I'm John Belmont (MGySgt Retired) I was Michael Operation Chief during his time in Okinawa. I was new on deck and never got the chance to really get to know Michael, but I had spoken extensively with the Marines he served with. I want to thank you for giving the world such a great young man. I pray that you and yours are bless and comforted. God bless John Belmont.

Every few days I try to look at names on this site and today, for some reason, I happened upon the name of Michael Downey - the date is significant. It's been a long time since he died and while the ache never goes away, I hope that the years have brought some peace to his family and all who loved him.

Today is Memorial Day and I woke up thinking of Michael. I put out several flags in his honor, and for the honor of all those who have fought and died for our country. When we lost Michael, I related for the first time as a mother of a lost soldier. I share the sadness and tears with all mothers of lost soldiers. I share the tears with my daughter, for losing her best friend. You will not be forgotten, and Thank You.

Looking through records, books, and postings of the great sacrifice young men take is something I do with every second I have to spare. I thank every single person that has undertaken this ultimate sacrifice. My brother, a Sergeant in the Marine Corps, just got back from his fourth tour and I consider every Marine to be my brother. For every Marine I hear taking this ultimate sacrifice, a tear is shed... I will miss you brother. Semper Fi.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Downey was an excellent marine, it deeply saddened me to hear of his passing. He was in my squad during our deployment to Thailand. During that deployment I found Downey to be not only an outstanding marine but also a fine young man. My deepest condolences go out to his family.

I am sorry for the lost of your son. He was truely a great Marine and a great person. I served with him in Okinawa as well, same platoon. I will never forget him, he was the smartest and best all-around Marine I ever met. I miss him, but I know that he is somewhere in heaven doing great things and watching down on us. I had the privlage to serve with Lcpl Downey for a little over a year and during that time it was easy to see why he had so many friends. He was a very likeable guy and also dedicated to the Marine Corps. I can't say enough good things about him.
