Family-Placed Obituary
RICHARD E. SCHUMACHER 79, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, December 8, 2007. Born on December 24, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana he was the son of William C. Etta Mae Schumacher. Richard graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree, 1950 and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He was the founder of Schumacher Buick, Inc. West Palm Beach, Florida and was a board member of the National Automobile Dealer's Association, Board Chairman Chicago District Ford Dealer's Advertising Association, National Ford Dealer Council, Buick Dealer Select Sixty, General Motors President Advisory Council and the Rotary Club, Evanston, Illinois. In addition to being a prominent business leader in both communities, Richard was a devoted father and philanthropist. He enjoyed golf, the mountains of North Carolina, and spending time with his family. He his survived by his brother, William C. Schumacher Jr. and his wife Elizabeth; children, Richard E. Schumacher Jr., Kathryn A. Schumacher, Charles A. Schumacher, Elizabeth A. Dvorak and their mother Patricia J. Handtmann; daughter-in-law, Amanda E. Schumacher, son-in-law, Richard J. Dvorak; nine grandchildren, Alex, Susan, Lauren, Ashley, Will, Danny, Charlie, Christine and John Michael. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, 717 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach, Florida 33408. The Schumacher family would like to thank Hospice of Palm Beach County for their exceptional care and services in their time of need. Dear Chuck and Family,
You have my prayers and thoughts of your father. I have always remember my times working for him, I was his first General Sales Mgr. when he opened Schumacher Buick in W.P.B. and will never forget when we had our first month of 100 sales of new Buicks. He took me to Worth Ave. in P.B. and bought me a new suit and all accessories. I fondly remember you Chuck when you were in middle school and you washed my car every Saturday. I have very fond memories of the Schumacher Family.

Dear Schumacher Family:
Ruth and I are very sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Dick and I go back more than 20 years and through some trying times at Wildcat Cliffs Counrty Club in Highlands, N.C. Dick was very instrumental in turning our club around and he enlisted my help. Between the two of us, we were not to be denied....the same way he was in the auto business! I was very proud to call him "my friend". May God give you Peace in this Christmas season.

I first knew Dick 50 years ago when he was general manager of Boulevard Buick in Chicago, and I was a humble ad salesman for the Tribune, newly graduated from Northwestern. He moved on to the Ford store in Evanston, and I bought 3 cars from him over time before he moved to Florida, buying the Cochran Buick store because he "was tired of watching snow fall on his money in Chicago."
He was a wonderful person, and I always felt special in his presence.
