Samuel GRUNDFAST Obituary

GRUNDFAST, Samuel

Dr. Samuel Grundfast of Boynton Beach, FL (formerly Lake Worth, FL) passed July 19, 2013 at the age of 92, with his wife of by his side. At a young age, Dr. Grundfast was an accomplished Eagle Scout. He proudly served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart of Bravery. Post World War II, Dr. Grundfast graduated dental school then passionately treated his dental patients in his own practice on Long Island, NY for over 40 years. Dr. Grundfast was an active swimmer, avid golfer, and artistic stone sculptor, but most of all, Dr. Grundfast was a family man. He and his wife raised a daughter, Myra Fink, who was the true joy of his life. Dr. Grundfast loved to Skype with his grandsons and great-grandchildren on Sundays. Dr. Grundfast battled Neuropathy throughout the years. Always the self-taught researcher, he managed his illness through nutrition, daily activity and supplements, and he chronicled his findings and shared his experiences with thousands of fellow sufferers through a monthly newsletter. Dr. Grundfast will be sadly missed by so many: the fellow Neuropathy sufferers whom he mentored, the residents of Gefion Court in Lake Worth, FL where he and his wife resided for over 30 years and where he served as President of the Building Association, and most dearly, by his beloved wife, devoted daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dr. Grundfast was the cherished husband of 68 years of Phyllis Grundfast of Boynton Beach, FL. Beloved Father of Myra Fink and son-in-law Stephen Fink of Florida. Loving brother of Lila Bordens and the late Alan Grundfast. Adoring Grandfather of Lindsay, Andrew and Matthew Fink. Great-Grandfather to Jacob, Remi, Matthew, Chloe, Benjamin, Malia, Mikayla, Max, Alex, and Brett. Brother-in-law of Ellin Bauman. Uncle to nephews Ronald and Kenneth Bordens, and Jim and Jon Bauman. A military funeral to honor Lieutenant Samuel Grundfast will be held on July 22, 2013 at 2:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Dr. Grundfast may be made to the American Cancer Society.
