I just learned of Tom's obituary. I wanted to tell his family and friends that I really enjoyed working with Tom when we both taught at Gove Elementary in Belle Glade, Florida. He was such a caring person and was always willing to help everyone. He taught as a special education teacher at Gove Elementary. He was such a treasure to everyone he knew in life! He always encouraged me to eat healthy and exercise which I still remember today at age 48. I appreciate his tremendous contribution to others in his life. I'm so glad he enjoyed being a husband and a daddy! May his family continue to treasure the precious memories with Tom.

Many condolences,

Susan and Tim Pohl and Daughters

I am so sad to hear of Tom's passing. I didn't even know until today. Tom was my camp counselor/coach in the mid-80's at South Olive elementary summer camp (and afterschool). We got on well. We both loved being around each other and he was always my favorite counselor. He went out of his way to help me and the other kids however he could, and I even remember him buying me a present for my birthday. He was such a nice guy and had an amazing athletic physique and strict diet that helped give him a competitive edge as a body builder. I would have visited him later on just to stay in touch had I known he worked at BAK middle school. God bless you Tom (in heaven), and peace and love to your family.

Coach Conboy was a good guy. I remember seeing him at Bradley's having a blast. He gave me some good advice when I asked him about coaching sports and training atheletes. He is one of the few people that inspired me to get into powerlifting and learn as much as I can to be better. I wish he could be here today. I would've loved to train with him. But until then, much love to the best gym teacher and guy in the world!

Coach Conboy,
It has been just over a year ago and still your impact on my life continues to be present. I will never forget the day in 6th grade when I walked out to the soccer field just to see this big guy ready to coach us. I never could have imagined that you could have been such a big teddy bear inside. You treated the entire soccer team like your kids, making sure we were always okay and even driving the bus over to the nearby Taco Bell just for a snack instead of practice. You taught us how to act as a team and look out for our teammates. You impacted my life in so many ways and even seeing you when you came back to school those few times made me remember that you were a true fighter. You will never be forgotten. Ever.

This year Mr.Miller an 8th grade language arts teacher made us write poems as an assignment and we had to enter them in the American Library of Poetry contest. The poem I wrote " Take Me..." was written about/for Coach Conboy. I have just recieved a letter stating that my poem has been entered in the contest and hopefully in the semi-finals and so on. This is extremely exciting for me and I'm sure for Coach as he is watching over me:) in the case that I may win Coach will be the first person I thank. He is and always will be my inspiration:) I love and miss you so much Coach.

I had the honor of being a part of the Conboy family and sharing in all that that means. I learned so much about a mothers devotion and the bound between brothers. I am a better person because of Tom and the love he had so much of. He was an amazing man who loved uncondionally and anyone he called a friend was trully blessed, I was truly blessed. He will be greatly missed but will remain forever in our hearts and memories. He taught so many about never giving up or giving in to circumstance, he over came so many obstacles in his life, and was an inspiration to more people than even he could ever imagine. We will see you soon Tom and love you always.

Dearest Irmi, Eric and family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you on the loss of our beloved Tom. He was such a bright light to many and will be deeply missed by all he touched. A man doesn't become so thoughtful, caring and considerate on his own. He learns this from his family. What a wonderful job you did in raising Tom. He made our world a better place and we are all so greatful to you raising someone so special. Tom lives on through all kids he coached.

Dear Irmi and Eric,
However well any one of us knew Tom, his image will always remain in our mind's eye as one of confidence and charisma, strength and kindness. He was a leader, a mentor and a protector.
In my long and winding career in photography, Tom's photo remains one of my favorites. But this pales in comparison to the real gift he gave me - the warm embrace of his family and friends whom I now call my own extended family. Thank you beautiful Tom. We carry your example with us and will forever miss you.
Irmi and Eric, I send you all my love,

Dear Irmi & Eric,
I was so sad to just learn of Tommy's passing. We were great friends as youngsters playing Greenacres Bulldogs YMCA football together and pick-up games of baseball, football, and basketball all over Greenacres, and we'd often climb the fence at the Lake Worth Village pool when we were really weren't suppose to do so. He often slept over, and between us we'd always clean out my parent's pantry. I still often tell the tale of Tom kicking barefoot 40-yard field goals as a 12 year old. I guess Tom was always my hero, even then. I joined the Air Force after high school and we'd lost touch over the years, but I always knew that he would be great--he was a "can't miss" kind of kid. He'll be missed by so, so many and your family is on our thoughts and prayers.

Cannot believe he took you from us so early. You really were an amazing person and coach, you made such an impact on my son Scott's life, best Coach ever, and a dedicated teacher, who helped the kids both on the field and in the classroom, coming in early and staying late to help the kids with what they were struggling with, a true blue !!! I remember you being at the house with your german friends, we had so much fun, and then Scott's graduation, you truly were impressive, one truly dedicated friend. You will always be in our hearts. Love and thoughts go out to your family

Dear Tom,

We go way back, but for some reason lost to keep in touch with one another, to hear of you passing breaks my heart, because I was not there to say goodbye. I will always remember what you have done for my brother and for me when we needed you. I had a great time playing baseball in that men's league NABA and working out at the gym. My brother (Matt O'Brien) too is very heart broken, you helped so so much. I remember him going fishing with and fitness shows. You are a great great man and will missed and loved by many.

Tommy I know you are walking the streets of gold, but you are so missed. From the time I met you, you were the sweetest child with that sweet smile. Even at that young age of two, you were so caring. You were wise beyond your little age. I was there at the beginning and in the end and so glad to be that small part of your life. The way you opened your hands and smiled when it was time for prayer leaves me with a special place in my heart. You will never be forgotten with such a wonderful legacy. You will live in my heart till we get to meet again. I love You Vickie

I spent some time with Tom at the Hippocrates Institute in Florida. I admired his strong physical physique but admired more his big strong heart. He was funny, caring, and not afraid to show his feelings. Let Tom's memory live on and let him be an example to all of us.

Our hearts will always hold coach near and never will he be forgotten. For a man who was such a role model and mentor and friend to everyone, he will continue his deeds from just another place. He left us only in body, as it will be a true celebration of his life and in spirit he will be with us all that evening. A big thank you to Irmi his mom for sharing with all of us her wonderful son over the years!! God bless everyone and I bet coach is now busy establishing that athletic program once again in heaven.

I never thought i'd see the day while I was still in highschool . Coach Conboy was the most amazing coach I've ever had the chance of being able to be a student of. I'll never forget the way he would be amused by our antics in volleyball or days were everyone would mess with him for being spray tanned my skin color. His class made me want to come to school most days and it's the reason I had p.e. 3 years in a row when I only had to have it once. He was always there to suport me in any sport I tried and if it wasn't for him I would had never found what I love to do. I guess god wanted a new angel and Coach Conboy didn't need to be taken from here for anyone to know how amazing he was . I'm going to miss him everyday but I know he'll be watching over all of us . But it won't be the same without him here .

March 21, 2010

Coach,
Thanks for changing my life for all the better. I still find old t-shirts you let me "borrow" for soccer when I would forget to bring one for practice. You always listening to me complain about my day and told me that it was okay and to keep my head up. You are an enormous reason for the success in my life.

I am just jealous now of the angels who get the priviledge of taking care of you.
Miss you Macho Man

Lots of Love,

About a year and a half ago I had the honor of meeting Tom while he was courageously learning how to heal himself. Everday, he graced us with a smile on his face,a matching outfit (jersey, shorts, and tennies) and a funny remark to lighten our spirits. Never a complainer, he was a rock for others...and he made it known that Jesus was his rock. Tom exemplified all that is great in this world- a concerned, caring, positive man who put others needs before his own. Even when in the hospital when I called to talk with him, he wanted to talk about me and how I was doing! I remember stories he told me and it was evident how much he loved both his family and his students. He spoke about being an uncle and how strong his mother was.

Everytime I think of Tom, warm thoughts come to mind because I wish there were more people in this world like him! He graced my life just in the few months that I spent with him.

Love you Tom and thank you for spreading your light with me! Your spirit lives on eternally!

What a great man Tom turned out to be! We are so proud of all his accomplishments. He has always been so strong- not just physically. I have heard a thousand Tommie stories from my brother Mike- all good.I hope that we can all find peace knowing that he lived exactly the life he wanted to live. We are all very lucky to have known him. My condolences to Eric and Irmi- I am so sorry. His grace will never be lost or forgotten.

Coach Conboy was my daughter's volleyball and soccer coach at BAK Middle School of the Arts. When she finished the 8th grade I sent him an email thanking him for the tremendous influence he had on my daughter, and how without asking, he stepped up in her life at a time when she needed it. He was a wonderful man and a great male role model for all of his students. May God Bless him and give him eternal life.

My BIG brother was the most influential person that has or ever will enter my life. There will forever be a void that will only be filled when I leave this earth. Tom and I had a very close personal relationship and he always took care of his little brother. I am so proud of the peson he was and all the lives he was able to touch. He was able to accomplish more in 43 years than most people can accomplish in 100's of years. It was truly a gift to be the brother of such a special individual. My deepest regret is that my three children, Tom's angels will no longer have his special touch in there lives. I loved my brother with all my heart and soul and look forward to the day I am with him again. Thanks to so many for the support that helped our family get through these trying times. I will always miss and love you bro, more than words can discribe. I love You.

I met Tom at PBA many years ago and we took several classes together in the P.E dept. Tom also helped me get a job with the city of west palm beach recreation dept. which we worked together for many years. Tom and I spent many years working and going to school together over the years. When I look back on those days I remember Tom always willing to help me with anything I needed. I also work with the school district and over the years we would see each other or talk on the phone and always have a laugh about the days at PBA or the city. I will truly miss Tom and I will always admire his dedication to his profession and body building.

March 17, 2010

My son Michael, now a 10th grader at Dreyfoos, played baseball for Coach as starting centerfielder from 6th-8th grade, and never worked harder for any coach he had since T-ball, including his own dad. I remember walking out to the field at Gaines Park for the very first time and hearing "BUUURRRDDO" bellow from the voice of this very large bald man. My son has been known as "Burdo" ever since. At the very first game, there he was, standing in the 3rd base coaches' box, fumbling with the scorebook. "You got that Coach? I can do that for you if you want". "Yes, here, please," he said. I giggled as I looked at his attempts at keeping score. I was his scorekeeper for the next 3 years, and was happy to do it for him. Sammi, now an 8th grader at Bak and also a centerfielder for the softball team, knew and loved Coach as well. In her 7th grade year, when he had just found out he was sick, they were all so sad to find out he wouldn't be around school anymore; but the smile on all of their faces when he would unexpectedly show up at one of their games was the best treat ever. And they were so gentle and loving with him. God Bless You and Keep You, Tom. May your soul rest comfortably in His everlasting peace.

First I would like to say that I am deeply sorry for your loss and my prayers are with you and your family :). Coach Conboy was a good guy and he will be terribly missed. I remember when I dislocated my shoulder in 6th grade at Bak, it was Coach who came up to me and told me "calm down don't be dramatic everything is going to be ok, don't freak out" and if you knew me I was nothing but a drama king hahaha! He waited with me in the nurses office until my mom came and I really appreciated that so much!
Coach I will never forget you Rest in peace :)

My deepest condolences go out to Tom's mother and brother. Time gets away from us, as I kept saying to myself to go and see him, but never made it there. I will hold forever the memories of the healthy, funny gorgeous Tom Conboy from high school, always smiling and cracking jokes! He will be remembered for everything he brought to all he came in contact with, he was the truest person one could ever know! You will never be forgotten, and give us strength to make it through each day!

Coach Conboy was my gym teacher and baseball coach at Crestwood Middle School. He had to be the best Coach I was ever able to play for besides my father. He was just fun to be around and was a great teacher for the young impressionable mind. I too still have his body building picture that was given to me after he left from Crestwood. Alot of Professional talent came out of those years that he coached baseball at Crestwood and we all just gravitated to him becuase of his positive attitude. You will be missed greatly.

Coach Conboy was my middle school gym and baseball coach. I was a short, fat unathletic kid in those days. In the summer he took me to the gym twice a day, three times a week, brought me to his house, showed me how to cook healthy foods....he set the standard of how any athlete should live and showed me at age 14. I went on to play professional baseball...and I made sure he knew he was a big part of setting that foundation. For every story like mine, I am sure there are hundreds of others. An inspirational role model that I was glad to have effect my life in such a positive way....missed dearly and his picture is still up on my wall.....

"Coach Conboy" became everyday words at our dinner table. My daughter Nikki would herald us with stories about her beloved soccer coach. I, in particular, loved to hear him laugh. You are in our prayers.

It's been almost 7 years Coach Conboy but I haven't forgotten who you were. I am praying for your family. I know they love you. I remember a bunch of us asking what you were eating and you finally told us that it was chicken diced up in a food processor. It didn't look like any chicken we ever ate but you were always so health conscious. In short you will be missed. I'm sure you fought it to the very end as you were always competitive.

Tom was a friend of mine since 1976 growing up in Lake Worth Village. Played a lot of basketball/watched a lot of basketball together. A great competitor in everything he did. Tom touched so many lives and will be truly missed by all. My deepest sympathy to Irmi and Eric at this time.

Although I never had the privilege to meet Tom in person, I felt I knew him as a friend. My daughter was lucky enough in her lifetime to know such a wonderful man and I was so happy that she shared her stories of Tom with me. As a mom I am so thankful to say that he is a treasure that Samantha will keep within her heart for the rest of her life. I am thinking of his mom and brother who loved him so very much and who were with him to the end. I just want them to know how Tom has enriched my life -- someone who has never even met him directly. He was that kind of a person, so very rare.

With deepest and most heartfelt sympathy,

I met Tom in High School, were we played football together. Throughout the years we competed in Flag football and shared a love of Bodybuilding. We worked together at many a bodybuilding event. Always helpful and with a tremendous sense of Humor. Double Down. The measure of a man is his impact on those around him, and Tom, you have a huge impact on everyone you met

I met Tom through his wonderful mom Irmie. I worked with Irmie at Bens steakhouse. Tom was only a few years older than me but the day I met Tom 20 years ago I knew I wanted to be just like him. I started working out at the same gym Tom did and became a better person because of Tom. Thank you Tom for touching my life. I am greatful to have had that opportunity. I will never forget you. Tom is my hero!

Prayer of Remembrance

In the rising of the sun and its going down, we remember you.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember you.
In the opening buds and in the rebirth of spring, we remember you.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer, we remember you.
In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn, we remember you.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember you.
When we are weary and in need of strength, we remember you.
When we are lost and sick at heart, we remember you.
When we have joys we yearn to share, we remember you.
So long as we live, you too shall live, for you are now a part of us,
as we remember you.

My knowledge of Tom goes back well before his teaching days when he when he worked for the City of West Palm Beach Recreation Department as a summer recreation leader. He made an immediate impact on the children he worked with by "becoming one of them" during their activities. His never ending enthusiasm and gentle approach to guiding them made him one of the most popular members of our staff. My heartfelt condolences to the family he left behind and may God reserve a proper place in his kingdom for such a thoroughly kind and loving person.

My deepest sympathy and Sincerest Condolences and Prayers for Mrs. Conboy, Eric and the Conboy Family and friends.
My deepest sympathy also goes out to all of Tommy's students and the people whose lives he touched.
Tommy was a good friend for over 20 years, as I had trained and coached him in bodybuilding. I knew firsthand how dedicated and determined he was by the will of iron he displayed for all of those years. I am so proud of him for being the
Strong Determined Champion that he always was.
But even though we knew each other for over 20 years I became even more amazed at how many lives Tommy had touched and how many people Tommy has helped during the past two years.
While I was not able to be there because of distance and my work, I was able to speak to him and watch the support that he received through Facebook and our conversations.
The young men and women that Tommy taught and coached are his Legacy.
Those young people he reached out to every day, are the incredible examples of
Thomas Conboy's LIFE OF PURPOSE!
As I have traveled through life, I have become more enlightened that it isn't the goals, the titles and accomplishments that we conquered that matters...
It is what we do with those achievements to help others, that makes a difference.
It is our work in making a Difference in other people's lives...
that truly Honors God and makes him happy with us.
With that said...
God must be so proud of Tom Conboy and the work he has done in the lives of these young adults!
So many of these people will have rewarding lives because of Tom's Efforts and
Tom's Caring Attitude!
TOM CONBOY MADE THE DIFFERENCE!
I believe that Tommy knew how important his work was with these young adults, because...When his life was extremely difficult and painful, when most people would have given up...Tommy fought the greatest fight, knowing his life mattered to all of us.
For the last day I have played over and over in my head the vision of Tommy entering The Kingdom of Heaven and The Lord embracing Tommy and saying,
"Tommy...Job well done, my Loyal and Faithful Servant"
GOD loves you Tom Conboy!
WE LOVE YOU TOM!

Tom was one of the wonderful people in our Health Educator program at Hippocrates Health Institute. He always had something positive to share and was keen to absorb the knowledge we were being taught. My memories of him are us all gathering at his house after class to prepare and share food together, he was a lovely guy. His long battle is now over and i trust he is at peace. My condolences to his close family and friends. With love.

He was an amazing coach. Gym was my favorite class. I'll never forget him. He was a really great guy. I remember he not only coached us athletically, but he taught us life skills and shared a lot of valuable lessons. I wish I could just have him as coach one more time.

Rest in peace Coach Conboy, if anything this whole expierence we have all witnessed helplessly from a distance through Facebook, through friends, the news and the newspaper, has shown us how strong you are not only on the outside (as the strong body builder you once were!) but on the inside. You and your battle have taught me to never give up, and keep fighting , no matter how tough things get. You still beat cancer and won in my eyes. You, your family, and your friends are in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.
You were a true inspiration, and will be missed greatly! ?

You were my inspiration to all the sports I have ever done. You got me into track, football and more! I will never forget all the great times we had together whether it was at a track meet or just watching The Simpsons with all your students. I love you and miss you Coach. You will always be in my heart! <3

When I think of Coach Conboy, I think of how much he loved the kids. I think his favorite time of year was the annual Sports Banquet when the kids were recognized for their achievements. He loved seeing the kids excited, and that's what made him a great teacher and coach. He will be greatly missed.

Wow, it is hard to believe he is gone. The article I just read only touches the surface of the man and mentor Coach Conboy was to everyone. BAK will not be the same without him, but thank God he touched so many lives while God shared him with us. Our prayes of comfort to all his family and friends. Love, Lisa and Earnest
