Augusta Painter Obituary

Augusta Victoria Ada Keil Maxey Painter, 86, of Pasadena, Texas, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 17th, 2011, after a brief illness.

Born to Henry and Awanda Keil on March 5, 1925 in Taylor, Texas, she was lovingly nicknamed "Dawtye" by her family; a name that has followed her through life. Dawtye is survived by her 4 children, 17 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren: Son Douglas Maxey and wife Janet of Pflugerville, TX (grandchildren Douglas Maxey, Annie Maxey, and Victoria Maxey); Son Curtis Maxey and wife Kim of Crosby, TX (grandchildren Jessica Maxey Melott and husband Scott, great-grandchildren Lucy, Evie Jo, Ruthie, and Lilly Melott; Patty Jo Maxey Sheets and husband Wes; Carl Barlow Maxey; Kirk Doxey and wife Alyssa, great-grandchild Kayden Doxey); Daughter Carole Maxey Rainer Lopez and husband Ernest of Pasadena, TX (grandchildren Sean Rainer and wife Chevas; Angela Rainer; Rivelino Lopez, great-grandchildren Romario, Denilson, Edson, and Adriano Lopez; Lisa Lopez and her husband Darren, great-grandchildren Dominique and Isaiah); Daughter Nancy Maxey Taylor and husband Donny of Pearland, TX (grandchildren Josh Taylor and Jake Taylor).

Her love of the Lord and her family were the cornerstones of her life. Through the years she had always been active at many churches including Grace Community, Bay Area New Life, the Heritage Foundation, and a member of Park Temple Baptist. She also so much loved her friends at Bayshore Towers Apartments, where she had resided for the last 17 years.

She was the Salutatorian and had the highest grade point average of her Taylor High School class in 1942. Upon graduation, she lived and worked in the Williamson County area until taking a job with the Department of War, Chief of Staff in Washington, D.C. After the war, she returned to Central Texas to attend Texas Lutheran College in 1947 and 1948. Dawtye married James Cobb in 1952 and had her oldest son Douglas. She married Carl P. Maxey in 1955 and had three more children, Curtis, Carole, and Nancy. She had resided in Pasadena since 1962.

Between 1942 and 1990, she worked for several agencies of the Federal government, including the Dept. of Army, IRS, and the EEOC, retiring with 20 years of service in 1990.

She was very interested in politics, attending as a Delegate for the Republican Party at the State convention in Dallas in 1990 and serving as Precinct and Assistant Precinct Judge in various elections. She was honored to attend the inauguration of Lt. Governor David Dewhurst in 2003 as a member of the Harris County delegation.

Throughout her life she had been a loving person and was a life-long learner, especially for the Word of God. Aside from being with her family, she enjoyed cooking and reading. She also was a big fan of the Houston Texans and hardly missed a game.

Mom/Gramma, as she was lovingly known by her family, will be deeply missed. She was a faithful Servant of God, and the family requests donations in lieu of flowers be sent to Park Temple Baptist Church, 3008 San Augustine Rd., Pasadena, Texas 77503.

A celebration of her life was held at Bayshore Towers, 3219 Burke Road, Pasadena, 77504 on Sunday, November 20, 2011, between 3:00 and 4:00pm in the Assembly Room.

The family received friends on Sunday, November 20, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Monday, November 21, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Grand View Funeral Home. Chapel services were held on Monday, November 21, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. and interment followed at Grand View Memorial Park. Online memorial tributes may be placed at www.grandviewfunerals.com
