Barbara Jean Snowden departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Barbara was born on June 25, 1947 at Ranger Hospital in Hallettsville to George and Bernice (Havrda) Vasek. On August 16, 1980, Barbara married Ray Snowden from Jackson, Mississippi. They were married for nearly 32 years and had two children, Steven and Stefanie.
Barbara attended St. John Parochial Catholic School and then transferred to the Schulenburg Public school system in the sixth grade and graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1965.
Shortly after graduating high school, Barbara moved to Houston, Texas and began working at Walgreens as the secretary to the warehouse manager and was also responsible for handling the payroll. She also worked for the United States Postal Office briefly before beginning her career in 1969 at Celanese Chemical Plant. During her career, Barbara worked in every department at one time or another and in the mid 1980's was promoted to Executive Administrative Assistant to the plant manager. After 39 years of dedicated work, Barbara retired to spend time with her family.
Survivors include her loving husband Ray Snowden and daughter Stefanie Snowden of Pasadena; mother Bernice Vasek of Schulenburg; sister Caroline Mazoch and fiancé Jimmy Sumbera of La Grange; sister Theresa and husband Moody Elzoery of Pasadena; nephews and neice, and a multitude of family and friends.
Preceding Barbara in death are her son, Steven Snowden and her father, George Vasek.
Funeral services were officiated by Father John Peters at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Sunday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m.
Barbara will be remembered and endeared in our hearts as a very caring and giving person and was always willing to help, even before she was asked. Her compassion and kindness was portrayed through her friendly smile. Barbara's memory and love with always be with us.

Barbara was a good friend and also a classmate of SHS. She will be remembered at our 60th class reunion this year. Always a genuine smile and sense of humor.
