Billy Joe (Slats) Munselle, of Deer Park, Texas, went to be with the Lord March 15, 2012 with his family by his side in Pasadena, Texas. Bill was born November 1, 1934 to Joe and Ollie Munselle in Fort Knox, Texas. Billy Joe came from West Texas to Houston in 1954 at the age of 19. He went to work for Diamond Alkali which became Diamond Shamrock and then Oxychem. He married Joyce Carolyn Munselle May 24, 1958. They lived in holy matrimony for 53 years. He was a dedicated husband, son, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend. Bill always tried to live the New Testament command to love thy neighbor as I have loved you. He never met a stranger and laughed every day. He was known for his bright smile, strength, kindness, charity and was faithful in his love and trust in the Lord. He loved the Lord, his family, cats, basketball, westerns and his many friends. He wouldn't want us to grieve his passing but to celebrate his life and have fun. He would expect us to tell a story, laugh and be kind to each other. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Many friends have declared him one of a kind. We know that Bill is face to face with the Lord and in a better place, yet it is hard to say good bye for now. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Carolyn Munselle; his children, Howard Tee; Billy Vaughn Munselle, Darla Kay Munselle, Terry Joe Munselle and his wife, Betsey Hogan Munselle; grandchildren Lauren Munselle, Christina Munselle and Billy Wayne Batero and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Clifton Munselle. You finally have your angel wings now Dad. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Christ Redeemer Lutheran Church. Services were held at Niday - Fairmont Funeral Home in Pasadena, Texas Saturday March 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.

My father in-law was a luminous soul. He was full of laughter, and his smile always softened my worries. He watched out after me like I was one of his own. I have said, and will continue to say, that he was a guardian angel. To myself, and to many others. Pure of heart, he looked out for his fellow man. He taught me so much about life and love in the 12 years that I knew him and I will never forget him. Or his stories. He was one of a kind. You finally have your angel wings now Dad. I know you always did. Love always and forever, Betsey Anne Hogan Munselle.

My condolences to the Munselle family. I worked with Slats in the cellroom @ OxyVinyls for quite a few years. He was one of a kind, and will surely be missed by all. A true "people" person that never met a stranger.

I worked with "Slats" during the early 70's at Diamond Shamrock. He had such good humor and at times even made work fun. May your cheerful memories give you strength during this time of sorrow.
