Our beloved sister, of Houston, TX, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, January 9, 2016. Candy was born on February 21, to Mildred and Bill Hay, attended schools in Pasadena, graduated from PHS in 1963 and moved to Houston in 1983. Regina, Candy's daughter, lived at Brenham State School at the end of her life. After Regina's death, the school was Candy's passion; she led carloads of friends and family to the school before various holidays to decorate the residential areas that enriched the lives of the residents. Candy also found great peace and joy working in the Circle of Friends special needs ministry at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Candy is preceded in death by her parents and children, Ricky and Regina Smith. She is survived by former husband Lawrence "Butch" Smith, her brothers Ronald Hay, wife Choyce, Michael Hay, wife Annanelle, sister Cathy Hay, nieces and nephews, Pam Adamek, Randy Hay, Sherri Pierson, Daryl Hay and Damon Hay and Ollie Hammack longtime friend considered a sister by Candy and family and also survived by her beloved cats Jez and Lucy.
A celebration of Candy's life will be held on Wednesday January 13 at 11am at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay, Houston, TX 77024, (713) 465-3467. Interment will be at 3pm at Forest Park 6900 Lawndale St, Houston TX 77023 (713) 928-5141. In lieu of usual remembrances, consider donations to the Volunteer Services Council for Brenham State School, 4001 TX-36 South, Brenham, TX 77833 (979) 836-4511 or Circle of Friends, Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Special Thanks to Lois Pierce, the doctors, PAs, and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, to Kate Koehn with Good Shepherd Hospice and to many others who contributed so much in so many ways through the illness.

My heart is breaking. I've been praying for her and sending her cards for so long. She always had such a positive attitude. A sweet, sweet person. Always thinking of others. She was a perfect example of how to live this life God has given to us. I'll miss her.

To Candy's loved ones - I am Debra Benedict and friend of Ann Haisler. Ann introduced me to Candy and I spent several evenings with them at Ann's home for different occasions. I also had the honor of helping with decorations at Brenham. It was an awesome day and experience. Candy and I have corresponded since Ann's passing last July, mostly about dear Lucy :) One of the women here at work took Lionel, another of Ann's dear pets, upon her passing. Candy sent pictures and updates of Lucy several times last year. I am terribly sorry for your loss. I had no idea Candy had cancer, so this is a shock.
God Bless her and all of you and may you find peace and comfort with each other at her passing.
Knowing Ann, she greeted her in heaven and now they are together again, happy with God and can be your guardian angels. Heaven is blessed to have them both, as we were blessed when they were here.
Bless you all.
Debra

I am going to miss you, dear friend...the impromptu dinners, our nights at Sylvia's with margaritas, the movies, the shared stories of lost loves and new ones, and so many other shared memories. Rest in peace in the love and comfort of our Heavenly Father.
