I remember Dave from when he went to EWU and threw the shot. He was always helping people with their form. He would always say " I know something about this I was all American in high school. What a great guy.

Dave and I met at Texas International in 1980, and like so many others of you here experienced, we became great friends from the very beginning. Spending time with Dave was always a gut-busting comedic adventure with a guy who just seemed to go through life like a fire engine. He could find humor everywhere, and his ability to do an impromptu standup routine about virtually anything was incredible. At a restaurant Dave could have everyone laughing up their food, including people at adjacent tables, and you couldn't help but get into the spirit of his personality and join him in the fun. If Dave is reading this, I know he will remember a few of our inside-joke bits of humor that kept us both laughing for hours, the "Dropped it off the back of the truck sale", "The tobacco shop", and "Harry's Hamburgers" (Do you want mustard? Well do ya, Punk?), and so many others that make me laugh now just to think about his creativity.
But we all also know Dave had an inner voice that sometimes caught up with him and revealed insecurities that he rarely let show. His self-doubts would surface just long enough for Dave to step back and take himself seriously for a moment, decide what direction he needed to go, then go there. I remember the night he told me he was going to do it, to load up his truck and head for Los Angeles and pursue his passion, acting. He had made up his mind and there was no questioning. The inner voice told him that it was time to make a decision, so he made it, and never looked back.
Dave may never have become the big Hollywood star that he wanted to be, but he was sure a star to all of us who knew him and enjoyed standing in his sunshine for as long as he was with us.

I've thought about Dave many times over the years & tried to find him a few times, but only found websites with info on his acting career. I worked with Dave at Continental Airlines when he was Flight Kitchen Manager & I was In-Flight Supervisor, before he left for LA & his acting career. Unexpectedly, saw him on TV or movies and in credits, which made me smile & remember him.
Dave ALWAYS had a smile, a quip & great attitude and it was infectious! Today, I thought about Dave again & tried to locate him again when I stumbled across this website. Although it's been many years since I saw Dave, it hit me kind of hard. So sad to find that a 'bright light' has gone out, at least here on this side!
Rest In Peace, Big Dave!!

Thinking of Dave Powledge, friend, godfather to my kids and would-be brother-in-law. He would have been 71 today, but sadly passed away last month.
Dave left a good job in the airlines to move to Hollywood and try his hand at acting. A former All-American in the shot-put, Dave put his physicality to work at the Universal Studios Wild West Stunt Show.
Someone noticed his resemblance to John Goodman, and thus began many years as a stunt double (Always, Arachnophobia, Barton Fink, One Night at McCool's.) His willingness to try any stunt led to many other jobs on films such as Evan Almighty, Mr and Mrs Smith, Dogma, The Postman, etc.
But, it was the on-screen work he cherished the most. Dave was a natural entertainer, and his acting chops were showcased on TV (Delta, Murphy Brown, the Jeff Foxworthy show) and in film (Princess Diaries, Million Dollar Baby, The Green Hornet, and Rat Race.)
It was on the set of Rat Race that he and I met and discovered we were both former Texans, had both attended the same church in LA, and were both very fond of my sister Linda Wasson Nabours.
Their relationship didn't go the distance, but Dave became a member of our family anyway. He was Noelle's godfather (and Kim, Kyle and Kalley's unofficial godfather) and was a fixture at all Wasson family get-togethers.
Dave was a regular during my years at Warner Bros. Everything I wrote had a role for Dave. He was incredibly and unfailingly supportive, a tough job for friends of struggling screenwriters. And, he was without a doubt the funniest person I ever knew. Dave wasn't happy unless everyone around him was laughing.
His infectious laugh was perfectly captured in this scene from Rat Race. He may have been acting, but every one of his many friends and admirers knew this unmistakable laugh. It could easily fill a room. I have no doubt that Heaven has been a hell of a lot more fun since his arrival.
Miss you, Bud.

David and I were Deepwater Duck neighbors during school, but we really became closer while working summers at Parker Brothers driving concrete trucks in the college days. We enjoyed playing crazy stunts for the other drivers--the funniest being when David asked me to waltz with him in the driver's lounge while an aspiring country singer did his pickin and grinnin. Dave really enjoyed messing with the other driver's minds. They were amazed and astonished! I'm sure he is being welcomed and enjoyed on the other side!

Dave was truly a remarkable person. He had a kind heart and was a blast to talk to. I met him through my family's restaurant and had no idea about his time as an actor/stuntman until after knowing him for 6 months. Such a sweet, down to earth guy who will be missed greatly by my wife and I. We'll see you soon Dave

I lost touch with David when he moved to California. But, I enjoyed watching him on the Jeff Foxworthy Show. It was so sweet of David to come to one of my Fringe Festival performances with Mike Regan, flowers and a cake. My sisters and I shared some laughs with him at the Tee Pee Motel bonfire. Would loved to have spent more time with David in Houston. Adieu Sweet Prince...

We knew David for 38 years. We met as strangers at Texas International and instantly became friends. David was passionate about his acting career...and he was successful. To be with David, you had to be prepared to laugh and laugh all night. David was bigger than life. He loved entertaining. We will miss his stories, his laughter and his smile. I know you're with GA and Colleen now and how you will love that! Thank you for the good times David! Love, Toni and Coleman

At our Home on Sprague St.....during the school week David & my brother Mike would be learning lines for an upcoming play... they were always breaking into laughter as the duo would make up lines of their own to spice up the plays dialog. Late night Friday nights were poker night at the house and when David showed up the poker took a back seat to the laughs.
David joined his sister Linda for our 45th reunion of the DP Class of '67,
as I reached around to give him a hug- he kissed me on the cheek--- had to love him,
God Bless

It was a great privilege to be David's friend. The few times I saw him after high school, he always greeted me with a hug and talked to me like we lived next door to each other. I became an instant admirer when he did the "Noah" routine for all of us during a break at football practice in 1965. He entertained all of us and I followed his career as he made his way in life. I will miss him.

David's memory will live on through the many friends he made. I'll always cherish the times that David, Chuck Westervelt and I spent camping out at the San Jacinto battlegrounds. We were probably the last ones allowed to camp there. We would spend hours playing around on the Battleship, Texas. Rest in peace Ole friend and keep them laughing beyond Heaven's gate.

Oh where to start. David had a presence bigger than life itself. His down right hilarious sayings would make me laugh so hard that I'd bring them home to share. Soon, many of them became a part of my family comedy, like talking like Cap'n Crunch, how funny, framestan....too many to name. We will miss your humor and big heart Dave.

What was that, a '52 Olds Powledge drove around like the Batmobile? We laughed a lot in and out of that car. I still owe him $1 for gas. Dave borrowed my Bill Cosby album to learn that classic "Noah" routine to use to win those humorous interp competitions. Always thought I'd get to hear him do it one more time. Gonna miss you, buddy.

David was unique. He was one of the lights in high school, making everyone laugh and admire. We all followed his career and were so proud of him for being able to make a living in one of the most difficult professions. I still remember seeing him in Million Dollar Baby and not being able to hear a word Morgan Freeman or Hiliary Swank said because David was busy being a background figure, and I was watching and so proud. He will be missed. He was a big presence with a big heart.

What hit the floor? Oh, it was David "name dropping" again. LOL...I knew David through his friend & classmate, Blan Patterson (my husband). We heard his movie stories so many times, but I loved hearing them. He could drop some good names like Tom Cruise & Clint Eastwood with long stories for each. He loved his friends & they loved him. We will miss him.
