David Max Wheeler, of Deer Park passed away January 14, 2016. He was born on December 28, near Ralls, Texas. He lived the majority of his life in Deer Park, Texas. David was an outstanding athlete at Ralls High School, and then continued his athletic career at Abilene Christian College. While at Abilene Christian College, he met and married his wife of 52 years Suzanne Wheeler.
David was best known for his huge heart and quirky sense of humor. He genuinely loved all he met and treated them with such high respect that he was known as a great gentleman. David loved his Dr. Pepper, and when not playing bridge, watching westerns and National Geographic. Ultimately he loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. David felt strongly about education, and he received multiple degrees himself. He gained great joy in teaching all of his students through the years.
David was called to Heaven on Thursday, January 14, 2016, from complications from a stroke suffered the previous week. He is survived by his spouse, Suzanne Wheeler of Deer Park, TX, sisters Linda Stem (Carl) of Overland Park, KS and LaWanda Neel (Gerald) of Lakewood, CO and close family friend, Karen Lilley. I was friends with David in college. He was absolutely the best. It didn't get any better than playing pick-up basketball with my friend.

Mr. Wheeler was my science teacher and my daughter's. As luck would have it, we also played basketball together at Dow Park gym for many years, at time with his sons.
My blessing to have crossed paths with him as a student, and blessed again as friends on the basketball court.

Mr Wheeler was my science teacher at Deer Park junior high many years ago (I'm 55) then he taught my son science (he is 27). We were both reminiscing the other day about how much fun and enthusiasm Mr Wheeler had when he taught. He made learning fun and touched thousands of students lives. We were both blessed to have been two of those he touched. God bless.
