Dorothy Marie Portell Schell was born to Eli and Minnie Portell, in Bonne Terre, Missouri on October 10, 1928. She grew up in a large family of six brothers and two sisters.
After graduating high school Dorothy met and married Lee P. Schell on July 21, 1956. They celebrated 58 years of marriage. In 1972 they made Clear Lake City, Texas their home where she resided until her passing.
A dedicated and beloved mother, Dorothy raised three children while working a full time job in retail for over 18 years. She always gave of herself, putting her family's needs above her own. She read the newspaper every morning, with coffee and her devoted cat, Meow, on her lap. She enjoyed listening to a variety of music, going on cruises, cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
After a sudden but brief battle with ovarian cancer, Dorothy passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 28th, 2016 at the age of 87.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Lee P. Schell, her parents and siblings. She is survived by her three children and six grandchildren. Daughter, Jennifer Stewart and husband, Jim; son, Paul Schell and wife, Julie; and daughter, Angie Palladini and husband, Bob. Grandchildren Brian, Ashley, and Jacquelyn Stewart; Kaitlin and Madison Schell; and Ryan Palladini.

Many years ago, I worked at the Forget-Me-Not-Shop (owners were the Steambarges) where Dorothy was my supervisor. Such a diminutive lady in height only! I am so sorry for your loss, and at the same time know you will take comfort, in time, for having had such an lovely lady to call your own. God bless you all.
