Silently slipped away during a peaceful moment the morning of September 10, 2016. Born in Spirit Lake, Iowa, June 13, 1933 to Pearl A. Pollard and Harry A. Sorensen. Her mother passed in 1938, she was raised by her father and a brother ten years her senior Harry jr. on a farm. Attended a one-room school house in early years and graduated from Milford High School 1949. Active in the student body, a cheerleader for three years, played the French horn in a concert band, and was drum majorette for the marching band. Graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and worked for a local Doctor for four years. Phyllis moved to Long Beach, California to continue her education, where she met her husband James M. Eddleman (a long shore man), and became a medical transcriptionist a Career which she was involved in until 2011.
To this union four children were born, Kelley Jean, Scott Allen, Kristen D'Ann and Bradley James. They moved to Houston, Texas in 1961 where she has resided in the same neighborhood for over 50 years, Meadow creek.
Member of Park Place Lutheran Church for forty-five years, until the church closed in 2007. She began attending Evangelical Lutheran church of the Redeemer in 2007; she served two years on the church council until she became ill in 2011.
She led by example of a woman with great faith, belief in God and love of people. A loving mother, wife, auntie, matriarch, and me maw known to her family, with that circle being large, her church and friends in the community played a large role in her zest for life. Served on many boards and communities, volunteered at schools and countless community programs. Phyllis enjoyed keeping up on current events gardening, music, art, cooking, all holidays and celebrations, an avid sports fan, and antiques shopper. Rescuing animals and the beach were dear to her heart.
She leaves behind five grandchildren, Brittany D' Ann Kreir, Ethan john Scott, Pearce Elizabeth Katherine Pearce, Madeline Faith Eddleman and Jake Samuel Eddleman. Daughter Kelley j. Pearce son Bradley j. Eddleman. niece Beverly J. Helms, nephew Charles W.Eddleman. Many neighborhood children she claimed as her's. Countless friends across the state of Texas, some include five decades, three generations. We are so proud of her courage, strength, laughter and love she shared with us during her lifetime.
Her children, daughter Kristen D'Ann Eddleman, son Scott Allen Eddleman, husband James Martin Eddleman. predeceased Phyllis.
The funeral service was held Saturday, September 24, at Niday-Fairmont Funeral Home in Pasadena.
Interment will be held Monday, September 26, at 11:00am at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her name to Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer or your favorite animal cause.
