Edith Huffine Frederick was born April 25, 1924 in Cement, Oklahoma. She was the seventh of eleven children born to her parents Lillie Adele Henderson and Phillip Thomas Huffine. The family later moved to the Panhandle of Texas. Edith graduated from Olton High School in 1942. She and her sister Paula moved to Dallas during World War II to work. Edith married Murphy "Fred" Frederick, a World War II veteran in Tyler, TX in 1949. Their daughter Susan was born in Dallas. The family moved to Houston in 1961 and Edith began her 33 year career working as a legal secretary for Mr. Tom Arnold a patent attorney with the law firm of Arnold, White and Durkee.
Edith moved with Susan and her family to Deer Park, TX in 1989. She was an active member of Deer Park United Methodist Church.
She loved being "Tanny" to her grandchildren Joseph, Jodi, and her namesake Meredith Hicks. She attended all their activities; comedy performances, athletic events, and dance recitals. She was a great cook and an impeccable dresser, always with the current fashions. She played dominoes weekly with a group of ladies and was the secretary for the local AARP group.
Edith lived a long and fulfilled life and her family will cherish memories of her.
Edith is survived by her daughter Susan Frederick-Hicks of Deer Park, grandson Joseph Hicks and wife Amanda of Pasadena, granddaughter Jodi Pace and husband USAF Captain Christopher Pace of Sacramento, California and granddaughter Meredith Hicks of Salt Lake City, Utah, and one brother Carole Huffine of Borger, TX, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Fred Frederick, son in law Dr. David Hicks and sisters Irene, Beatrice, Paula, Faye and JoAnn, brothers; Pat, Lester, Marvin and Tommy.

Dear Susan, Just read the obituary for your Mom. She was such a special Lady. I recall teaching her swimming lessons. She wanted to be able to swim in case the grandkids needed her while she was watching over them. She did a great job. She really loved her family and I'm sure you are missing her too.

I remember Edith well from working together with her in the law firm of Tom Arnold. She was also a sweet lady with a smile on her face. I miss her.
