YEARGIN - Frances Yeargin, 94, passed away peacefully in Pasadena, Texas. Mrs. Yeargin was the eldest of four children born to Martha Leona Johnson Grimes and Merton Ona Grimes. She was a third generation native Texan, born in Moffatt, Texas. Mrs. Yeargin was married to the love of her life, G. Scott Yeargin. They were married for 50 years when he was called away to heaven where he has been waiting for Frances to join him. Mrs. Yeargin is survived by her two children, son George Yeargin and daughter Maggie Howe and husband, Tom; her three grandchildren, Ellen Howell, husband Josh, David Mahaffey, and Nick Mahaffey, wife Rachel; two great-grandchildren; brother W.O. Grimes and Wife, Ardath; sister-in-Law, Anne Grimes; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Yeargin proudly served her country in the U.S. Coast Guard as a SPAR during World War II and was stationed in Palm Beach, Florida and San Francisco, California. She obtained a B.S. in Home Economics in 1937 and a Master of Education in 1948 from the University of Texas in Austin. She also attended graduate school at the University of Houston. Mrs. Yeargin touched the lives of so many and always happily helped many in need of her skills and kind words, serving as a teacher from 1962 to 1979 at William Bailey Elementary in Pasadena, Texas and for 14 more years throughout her beloved native home state of Texas. She was a life member of Texas State Teachers Association and served as president of Pasadena Classroom Teachers Association in 1977-78. She was proud of her heritage and was a past regent and active member of the Jane Long Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the James W. Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, St. Bartholomew Chapter, The Huguenot Society of Texas, and Houston Colony, Magna Charta Dames, and avidly chronicled her family's ancestry. Following retirement, she pursued a career as a freelance writer, joined the Writers Club of Pasadena, and her work appears in many devotional and nostalgia publications. Mrs. Yeargin taught her children and grandchildren to be independent and strong and they learned by her example, wisdom, and guidance. The love she showed us all can never be replaced and will be with us always. Through our faith we are comforted to know she will be with her husband, Scott. Mrs. Yeargin is also preceded to heaven by her parents and two brothers, Merton O. Grimes, and Robert H. Grimes, a beloved aunt, Frances Elizabeth Johnson, and countless cherished relatives. Mrs. Yeargin will be missed beyond words but she will always be in our hearts. This is her legacy of which she was very proud. A celebration of Frances' long and wonderful life will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, 4:00pm, at her church home of 50 years, where she served as an elder, a Sunday School teacher, circle leader, Bible moderator, and leader of the intercessory prayer group, First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena, Texas.
