Gary lost his battle for life after a long illness at the age of 76. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on August 18, 1938 and left this earth on February 28, 2015. He was predeceased by his father Lawrence and his mother Arlene, a son Steve and a daughter Susanne. He is survived by his wife Amy, sons Shawn (Katie) and Larry, daughter Shannon, three grandchildren (Evan, Angelica and Makayla) and brother Steve.
Gary was a decorated veteran and served 23 years in the armed services as a member of the Navy, The Army and the Air Force National Guard. His time included a tour of duty in the Philippines with the Navy and time in the Army with the 101 st Airborne in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. As an employee of Bell Helicopter he was sent to Iran to train soldiers and remained there until the fall of the Shah. He then joined the Air Force National Guard and served in the 254 th in Garland, TX, transferred to the 272 nd in LaPorte, TX and then to the 147 th Fighter Wing in Houston, TX until his retirement in 1998. He participated in the campaigns in Desert Storm and Vietnam. Gary received numerous meritorious service awards while in the Air National Guard.
Gary was involved in numerous area civic projects and received both state and local recognition for his efforts. Before joining the Air National Guard, Gary performed as a pianist and vocalist in Reno, NV. Music remained one his primary interests.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 6th from 6-8pm at Niday ~ Fairmont Funeral Home in Pasadena, the memorial service will also commence at the funeral home Saturday, March 7th at 2:00pm.
