Gary Pool Obituary

Gary K. Pool passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

After Gary graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana he returned to the City of South Houston and was employed by Southern State Bank.

He then left South Houston to work as a bank examiner for the State of Texas in Austin.

Upon the death of his father, C. G. Pool, Gary returned to the family business in 1993.

Gary became active in the family business, C. G. Pool & Sons Real Estate in the City of South Houston. He was an honest businessman who took pride in his knowledge of the business and helping others. He found homes to buy or rent properties for people in the area of South Houston.

Gary was employed by the Texas Citizen Bank from February 19, 2007 to the present. He was the Senior Vice President of Loan Administration.

Gary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pasadena. He was a good Christian and always had time for the church. One of his main goals was to help members get to church and functions in order to worship and get to know God. He would take a van and pick up members who were unable to drive or had transportation issues. Being the Christian that he was, he always had time for the church and was available by being part of the Bible Study Program, the Adult Welcoming Volunteer Program, and the One Way Sunday School Class. These were just a few of the programs he participated in. God made some wonderful things - birds and bees and butterfly wings, springtime showers, flowers, too, and special people just like Gary.

The City of South Houston Chamber of Commerce was blessed to have Gary serve as the Chairman of the Board from 2004 - 2005. The main goals for that year were to establish a purpose and achieve it for the benefit of the Chamber and City which we feel he greatly accomplished. Rewriting the duties, responsibilities, job description, by-laws, personnel policy, was a challenging effort which he accomplished. One great characteristics of Gary was that when he took on a project it was completed with great accomplishment. The City of South Houston and the Chamber are a better place to live and work thanks to Gary's support, hard work, and willingness to achieve. We truly appreciate the honor and privilege of working with Gary and being a dear friend for all those years.

Much of Gary's time and effort was spent to establish the Economic Development Corporation program for the City of South Houston, which the City has benefited greatly from. Many hours of effort, dedication, devotion, and dealing with many negative people who were clueless about the project was a chore in itself. Traveling around the state, meeting with many cities and their officials trying to establish the best for the City of South Houston was a project worthwhile to the City and its officials.

Gary was a member of the Pasadena Rotary. He served as Program Chairman of the club for a period of time.

Life is about experience, helping others, and he experienced that to the fullest. Gary's Motto: Live a good life, enjoy it, and take advantage of the opportunities life offers. Gary will be missed by all especially by his wife Shari, his sisters Gail Phillips and Sara Hudson, his children, Keith and Laura, and his grandchildren.
