George Johnson

George Earl Johnson went to his heavenly kingdom on January 12th, 2014. He was born on November 5th, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to George and Hortense Johnson. His parents, brother, John Francis, daughter, Linda Joye Atwood, and son, Darrell George Johnson, precede him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Elsie Jean Cheromiah Johnson, daughter, Dee Ann Guerrero, grandchildren, Curtis Atwood, Jr. and wife Taryn of Sacramento, California, Adam Guerrero and wife Renee, Randy Guerrero, and Ashley Berczik all of Pasadena, Texas, great-grandchildren, Madison Atwood, Naiya and Caydee Guerrero, Carter and Cody Berczik, and sister, Maryanne Mounger Gonzalez of Dallas as well as numerous extended family in Dallas, Tx and New Mexico. George graduated top 10 of his class from University of Texas at Arlington with a bachelor's of science in chemistry. He moved to Pasadena, Texas in 1967 and began working as a chemical engineer at Shell Oil Company and retired in 1996 as a projects manager. After retirement, he and his wife built a home in Acoma, New Mexico where they spent their summers. George loved to travel with his wife, family, and friends, Reverend Ben Skyles to Paris and Spain, Tom and Patti Roberts to Hawaii and all over America, as well as Joy and Les Lloyd to Alaska. He loved salmon fishing in Bodega Bay, CA with his brother, John, spending time with his family and friends, was an avid golfer, enjoyed going to his great-grandchildren's baseball and soccer games, he also enjoyed attending Native American dances and supporting the Indian casinos and Las Vegas casinos. Accomplishments: Member of St. Peters Episcopal Church since 1972 and served in every office, served as president of Pasadena Jaycees in their heyday and member of Texas JCI senate, voted as one of the outstanding young men of America in 1975 (same year as Elvis Presley), volunteered at a homeless shelter for 10 years, and was an AARP tax aide. The family will receive friends at Grand View Funeral Home on Friday, January 17th, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on 710 Williams St. Pasadena, Tx. Interment and reception will follow at Grand View Funeral Home.
