Graveside services for Hazel Elaine Angel of Houston, Texas, will be held Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Camp Ruby Cemetery in Livingston, Texas with Pastor Gordon Smith officiating.
Hazel Elaine Howard Angel, 91, was called home to be with the Lord on December 17, 2015 after almost two decades of a courageous struggle against Alzheimer's disease. She was born December 16, 1924 in Ferriday, Louisiana, the eldest child of Laney and Ebben Howard. Hazel attended Ferriday High School where she graduated as salutatorian at the age of 16. In 1945, at the age of 19, she graduated from Louisiana Tech with a degree in Home Economics and a Chemistry Minor. Upon graduation, she was recruited by Humble Oil & Refining to the Baytown area. While in Baytown, she met and married the love of her life Hiram William Angel on June 12, 1947. Hiram and Hazel moved to Pasadena and started a family and their restaurant businesses. Initially, they started a soft serve ice cream store, Zesta Kup, and later created the popular Angel's Grill that served Pasadena for almost forty years. Her husband, Hiram Angel, preceded Hazel in death in 1972. After the sudden loss of her husband of 24 years, her courage and tenacity led her to be an extremely accomplished business owner, while still raising her family. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church and remained faithful to His call throughout her life.
She is survived by her sons, Hiram William Angel (Bill) of Pearland, and Bruce Howard Angel of Houston; daughters, Barbara Elaine Angel Graham of Ft. Worth, and Elizabeth Marie Angel Magee (Betsy) of Dallas; daughters-in-law, Bobbie and Angie Angel; sons-in-law, Jack Graham and Kevin Magee; grandchildren, Emily Angel Doran, Elise Angel Graham, Elaina Angel Graham, Elizabeth Angel Graham (Zibby), Caroline Angel Magee, Catherine Angel Magee, Sonya Sellers, Blake Douglas, and Blaine Douglas; 6 great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. Cochran Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Please sign our online guestbook at www.cochranfh.com

Bill, Bruce, Barbara and Betsy, I just wanted to let you all know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I know what a special lady your mom was and I have such great memories of spending time with her at your home and the restaurant. She gave me my first real job, as a waitress one summer and of course, folding boxes with Barbara! She was very patient and kind and always made me feel right at home when I was over at the house. Also, I know she and my mom had a special friendship. Heaven has indeed received an angel. Thinking of her completely healed, with God and reunited with your dad is a comfort to all I am sure. Sending my love.

She was a very sweet and kind lady. I worked for her briefly in 1985, 86 before joining the navy. I needed a loan to pay a ticket I received and she loaned me the money and took a little out of my check weekly until I paid her back. I'll never forget that. Rest in peace, heaven has a true angel.
